This is why:
Article 12.5.1.1 deals with promotional activities. <!--EZCODE BOLD START-->At the very least, Smith violated condition (d)<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->, which grants permission to attend a camp or outreach program so long as the student-athlete does not miss class, <!--EZCODE BOLD START-->and condition (a)<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->, which requires written permission from the athletic director or designated coach to attend the camp.
I'm not saying I agree with all of the NCAA's rules, but like it or not, our players are bound by them. The sad part is, this could've all been avoided by one simple act - "Coach, I was invited to participate in a camp for a charity, is this okay?" It's not as though players do these things 5 times a week.
