Trinity blasts past Hickory

SLIPPERY ROCK - Trinity used the long ball in extra innings to earn a victory in the PIAA Class AAA playoffs Wednesday.
Andrew Sweat and Matt Shade hit solo home runs in the top of the ninth inning, and Trinity held on to defeat Hickory, 8-6, at Slippery Rock University's Jack Critchfield Park.

Sweat and Shade, who combined to go 7 for 10 with six RBI, led the Hillers to a quarterfinal game against Blackhawk today at 4:30 p.m. at Consol Energy Park in Washington.

Trinity rallied from a 3-2 deficit by scoring three in the top of the fourth inning on a three-run double by Sweat, who announced last week that he will attend Ohio State to play football in 2008. He finished with four RBI and has driven in eight in the past two games.

"I'm having a lot of fun now," Sweat said. "I can focus on baseball now that I made my football decision."
