XP -- Keep your chin up, partner. You have much to be thankful for. Back injuries are always painful, but some can be crippling. From your description of your recovery, it sounds like you'll be back to normal once the pain subsides. Just keep your pharmaceuticals handy and don't push your luck by getting up too soon. Get all the rest your back needs to heal completely and, when you do get up, expect to be weaker than normal and don't exert yourself. Slow and easy wins this race. (I broke my C-1 and crushed my T-9 two years ago, at the age of 56, and was in bed for 4 months. But I'm perfectly fine now, thank the Lord.)

I echo the compliments to Garrett. This is the biggest decision of his young life ...one of the biggest he'll ever make. Slow and easy wins that race too. No need to hurry -- much more important to get it right. The only thing I can add, as an admitted partisan, is that a decision to attend the Ohio State University and play for Coach Jim Tressel is virtually certain to be a wise one -- for Garrett (as well as for the other young men out there deliberating as Garrett is). Those of us who know the school, the football tradition and Coach Tressel well also know that it's an exceptional opportunity for Garrett. Maybe a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity. As A.J. Hawk said when interviewed before his final game, against Notre Dame: "A.J. Hawk, the Ohio State University. There's no place in the world I'd rather be."

Blessings and good luck to you and to Garrett.
