GOSHEN ? Inside a big house in this sleepy village that stands on the outskirts of Fayetteville, Mike Conley II was back home. He wasn?t the star point guard who led Ohio State to the national championship game this year or the fourth selection in the 2007 NBA Draft.

He wasn?t even the future of the Memphis Grizzlies. On this night, he was just Mike Conley II, the kid who grew up in Fayetteville before moving away when he was 12.

GOSHEN — Seven years ago, Mike Conley II was a 12-year-old child royally upset with his dad.

Mike Conley Sr. had decided to move his family from Fayetteville so he could work in Indianapolis for the U. S. Track and Field Association. His son didn’t want to go.

“I had some trouble with that,” Conley said. “I don’t think I talked to my mom or my dad for a good month after we moved because it was hard for me to leave everybody. I only knew one thing, and that was Fayetteville, Arkansas.”

On Tuesday, “Little Mike” got a chance to return to the hometown and friends he left. Conley II, now an NBA rookie with a multi-million dollar contract, spent a couple hours catching up with old friends and signing autographs at the Waterford Clubhouse on the grounds of the Waterford Estates subdivision.

Conley wanted to share his good fortune with those he grew up with. He had planned to return to Fayetteville and spend a few days visiting with people, but throwing a party seemed a more efficient plan.

“I just wanted to come back to Fayetteville and see all the people I haven’t seen in a long time,” Conley said. “It has been a fun deal.”
