this is nothing more than the continued commercialization of college athletics. programs were founded to keep young men in shape post ww1 for the next big war. now its pay per view for broadcast fine, heck not long ago only 2 or so games even were on tv. either pay our shut up. heck im not going to lie it turns me off to college athletics to about the same level that people complaining that the kids should get paid, they get tuition and are stipend, not long ago kids paid their entire way and no athlete got a scholarship.

you have two options:
pay the bill and get btn or stfu and put make the choice with your wallet and say no.
Great post.

Things is a changin' - and nobody likes change. But it IS just football and it IS all about money. And you better get used to it.

With the merging of the Internet and TV distribution mechanisms for tv programs are going to change much the way they have for music.

Used to be the networks had considerable leverage over the college teams they were exploiting. There were limited networks and limited distribution capabilities. Now - not so much. With the money that is on the table these days every conference can afford to package and distribute its own product and there is no reason to expect them not to.

I can see myself paying a subscription down the road for either OSU or Big Ten football. But will it stop there? How long before Michigan and OSU decide that they are tired of subsidizing NU and IU? And again, why should they? None of the 10 Commandments address the issue in my Bible.

And how long before I have to decide if I want to subscribe to the SEC network if I want to see Florida vs Georgia or LSU vs Tenn?

Heck, it is even moving to HS where OHSAA is putting together a package of televised sports. Think the NCAA has a hard time managing corruption? Wait till big money (at least relatively "big money") starts flowing into HS coffers. (And how long before Massillon asks why they are subsidizing Teays Valley?)

Human nature (i.e. greed, incompetence and a lust for power - the very same lust for power that brings you to your feet when Beanie crosses the goal line) remains the same. Just the technology is changing.

End rant.
