More than half may be seeing some playing time for the Buckeyes this year.

Here are few rhetorical questions that we may want to react to:

Why are these kids so energized? What has made them so motivated? Why have some cracked the starting lineup? Has the loss of Ginn, Gonzo, and Pittman created opportunities that would have prevented them from even being considered? Is there a catalyst player or players in the mix?
Or, Is it that this is a very talented class?

I think the last few questions may be worth exploring as we ponder what is going on here. Opportunity, yes. Talent, yes. Catalyst - absolutely yes, this is were a team becomes a team and players are enegergized by others with high hopes, goals, and motivation. They all want to play football, they all have proved that coming into this school. What happens when they see Saine, Clifford, Torrence, Washington and Sanzenbacher getting reps and advancing? IMO, that energizes everyone, even the Sophs, Jrs, and Srs are motivated by that. This team has energy, this team is motivated, this team is hungry and wants the big prize at the end.

When you have a collection of exceptionally talented kids, the thing that pulls them together and that makes them a cohesive unit is leadership and the will to be the best team in the land. I can see that with this team and although I'd like to think a highly energized freshman class is solely the answer, IMO, the "catylast" out there may be the example that a few of these kids have set for all to be motivated by.

6 days and counting. Go Bucks
A hyper aggressive frosh class could be a catalyst. I think it also has a lot to do with a non SR laden team.

Lou Holtz said that the JR year was when players cared the most about winning. Frosh year its just PT, Soph year its about starting, JR year about winning and SR year about individual stuff. Now obviously thats a pretty sweeping generalization but I think it has a nugget of truth in there.

Looking at our 2002 team you had a super freshman class injecting a lot of talent and enthusiasim into a team thats had a realativly small number of SR's. The bulk of that teams starters were all JR's.

IMO the perfect storm for a team having "it" is the freshman class transfusion, a JR dominated team, modest expectations and a collective chip on their shoulder from a percieved lack of respect(has to be genuine not faked a la 2002 Miami).

1954, 1957, 1968, 1979 and 2002 all had these elements to some degree. Lets hope 2007 can be added to that list.
