Lancers leave Elder impressed
La Salle opens GCL South play with 28-19 win
BY TOM GROESCHEN | TGROESCHEN@ENQUIRER.COM
La Salle star wideout DeVier Posey was itching to make up for a big mistake, and he made a big play to help the Lancers score 28-19 upset win over Elder tonight.
Posey, committed to Ohio State for next year, scored on a 48-yard catch-and-run pass from quarterback Brendan Jones to give the Lancers a 28-19 lead and some breathing room with 4:40 remaining.
La Salle, ranked No. 7 in the Enquirer Division I poll, stopped an Elder team that was ranked No. 3 in the city, No. 4 in the state, and No. 15 nationally by Sports Illustrated.
Posey fumbled a kickoff return in the third quarter, and that miscue helped Elder slice a 21-13 deficit to 21-19 late in the third quarter.
?After that fumble, I was hoping my team would pick me up and they did,? Posey said. ?Our defense got the ball back, and I thank God for them. Words can?t describe how we feel.?
Posey had nine catches for 141 yards.
