My guess is that the applause came from all the reporters in attendance that are not employed by the Daily Oklahoman.
FWIW, the Oklahoman is owned by the Gaylord family, who just happen to be the biggest donors to the OU football program. Their name is on the football stadium and OU's journalism school. Hell, even the colors of newsok.com are Crimson and Cream!
There is no love lost between Cowboy fans and The Oklahoman. Mike Gundy, a former
OSU quarterback himself, probably knows this as well as anyone.
It's also worth noting that
Columbia Journalism Review awarded The Oklahoman the title of "The Worst Newspaper in America" in 1999.
