PSU missing in battle for local talent
10/12/2007
Make your name known early. Make a good impression. Make someone feel important.

It's called good recruiting.
Seems like you can't walk the sideline at Scranton Memorial Stadium these days without almost accidentally bumping into a big-time college football coach doing some good recruiting of their own.
A few weeks ago, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano choppered in. Last week, it was Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt. Neither was allowed by NCAA rules to talk about why they were there, but it's no coincidence that both showed up for West Scranton games, and that Hubie Graham plays for West Scranton.
Graham is leading the charge, a four-star tight end prospect as rated by Rivals.com who has received more than 20 scholarship offers. But the Lackawanna Football Conference, right now, might have more Division I talent on the field than it ever has.
Graham is a stud, but Pittsburgh also has shown interest in West quarterback Matt McGloin, who threw for 340 yards last week. West offensive lineman Eric Shrive, a 6-foot-7, 280-pound tackle, has received offers from three schools - Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse. And here's guessing two or three more local players will be getting some serious Division I interest before signing day in February.
The point is, Wannstedt and Pittsburgh were hot on Graham's trail long before his senior season began, and they are blatantly putting the same full-court press on Shrive. Just as clearly, Schiano is trying to make the same type of inroads in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
My question: Where is Penn State?
