Maybe I'm wrong on this, and maybe this is an NFL rule and not college, but when a play is blown down by mistake, I thought an opponent could still recover a fumble when blowing the play dead didn't make a difference in hindsight. In other words, like yesterday, the play was (maybe?) blown dead when it shouldn't have been... yet
OSU was clearly going to and did recover the fumble. Nobody from Illinois had a play on the ball. If that's not the rule, it needs to be.
Also, in 2004 it became a point of emphasis for Big 10 officials to NOT blow plays dead immediately. The refs clearly blew it in that regard. That's not a judgment call... that's forgetting/ignoring a league office mandate.
