Glad I'm not the only one scratching my head wondering where this "potential" and offers from some of the top BBall programs in country meet up with 4 points here and 8-10 points there, I don't always read the articles, but the rebound totals are not eye-popping either.
Well once again, the staff (and other staffs) see things that they value enough to offer a scholly, so as we are want to say "in Matta we trust"

Reading back through the thread Van Tresse received many of the offers ( OSU, Indiana) in May of '06. These came during his Freshman year when he went head to head in practice with Oden at Lawrence North and Speice Indy. The potential growth and development of a 6' 8" Freshman learning from and banging with the best merited the early offers. Websites ranked him as an early top 10 (Rivals #8) in the 2009 class, even though as others note he was not a starter on the LN varsity team. Rivals compared him favorably to Josh Mc Roberts, but last year his performance was hampered by pneumonia. His junior year (2007-8) would certainly be the more accurate indicator if this "early offer potential" was a legit assessment or as CBF 40 said "it doesn't seem the potential is showing up yet." In the fall of 2007 Rivals dropped him to the #20 power forward prospect and #52 overall. Scout ranked him as the #17 Power Forward.
His height and weight have plateaued as seemingly have his point production and rebounding statistics. It does makes one wonder if and how aggressively some early offer schools are pursuing this prospect. Will the potential show up later or has the early potential prediction already peaked? I believe there are many schools who have turned their attention to other prospects.

Ohio State is actively recruiting him......which in my book is a good indicator of how Matta thinks of Van Treese.

Might be wrong but with the problems at Indiana, I would think that the main two dogs in this recruitment will be Purdue and the Buckeyes.

If IU is banned from the NCAA Tournament, current high school juniors who made nonbinding oral commitments to IU or are considering playing for IU could decide to go elsewhere. Even the four seniors who signed a binding letter of intent in November could ask to be released.
"I'm really concerned," said Lawrence North center Stephan Van Treese, the state's top-ranked junior and one of the nationally ranked players in his class considering IU.
"If they have violations that they can't go to the tournament, why would I want to go there? The main thing I want to do when I go to college is play in the tournament. I think a lot of players feel the same way."

Van Treese did not play due to illness in a 66-62 loss.

The Wildcats were without 6-9 junior center Stephan Van Treese, who was ill.
