The thing about Rose is... is he really a PG? Or a Gilbert Arenas/Wade type SG? My hope is, unless Bruce Weber wants a Villanove type offense, neither Gordon and Rose won't be able to coexist ont he court becuase neither is really a PG enough to run the team. Whereas, Butler and COnley are established enough as PG's to where they are adapt to distributing and getting others invloved. After we win it all in 2007 , a lineup of Conley, Rose, Lighty, Koufos and... Oden? Lauderdale? Frease? would be defintie favorites to win it 2008. I hope Matta can relay the info to him . However... Conley, Diebler, Lighty, Koufos and wheover plays center would be very nice as well.

I followed more of the football stuff this weekend... how was diebler's strength? From some reports, I had wondered if he would need to redshirt to bulk up. If he's taking the ball inside, perhaps those pontifications were off-base. We definitely could use him right away if he's ready, as I'm not sure Cook will be around for year two.

Well he is still going to need to add weight, but he still has a while till he would be needed to play. I think once he gets into lifting hard all the time he will have no problem being ready to play as a freshmen. He also seems to have the knowledge to make up for some of his lack of stregth.

I posted this over at BN, and i thought I would do it here too just to get some feedback. this is what I see as the future for OSU:

07':<!--EZCODE BOLD END--><!--EZCODE UNDERLINE END-->
-We lose Harris, Lewis, Oden
-We bring in Koufos, Lauderdale, Diebler, Tyus

<!--EZCODE BOLD START-->Linup of:<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->
PG: Butler, Conley
SG: Cook, Diebler
SF: Lighty, Tyus
PF: Koufos, Hunter, Madsen
C: Terwilliger, Lauderdale

<!--EZCODE UNDERLINE START--><!--EZCODE BOLD START-->08':<!--EZCODE BOLD END--><!--EZCODE UNDERLINE END-->
-We lose Butler, Terwilliger, Hunter, Cook
-We bring in Mullens, Offutt, Crater, Roe

<!--EZCODE BOLD START-->Lineup of:<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->
PG: Conley, Crater
SG: Diebler, Offutt
SF: Lighty, Tyus, Roe
PF: Koufos, Madsen
C: Lauderdale, Mullens

...I would LOVE to get Frease too, but i don't know that there will be room enough for him.

I think you hit the nail on the head...my only addition (hopefully) would be that we also bring in Buford in '08. I think Roe ends up at the 4 and would leave our swing players as Diebler, Offutt, Lighty and Tyus, which hopefully doesn't scare off Buford.

I LOVE Bufords game too wad, but as with Frease...I think the numbers game may keep out Buford. If another spot does open up...I want one of those two guys for sure.

This is the exact same thing I thought when I saw Hotmic's post. I for one really hope that we can find for Buford, he has really skyrocketed up the charts, and should only continue to get better.

The only other thing, is that I think there is a chance that Cook will be the one to leave after his freshmen year and not Oden.

I thought the same thing about cook/oden... but with this injury, it may expedite Greg's exodus to the pros (the injury concern of returning will be a lot more real now).

First day of the NBA camp and he is doing just that......good call.

Diebler does need to add some strength, but he will not RS. That rarely happens in the basketball world nowadays. Cook will be here 2 years in my opinion.

I have been singing his praises for awhile now, if he improves his feet, I think we find room for him if he wants to be a Buckeye, but the possiblity is there that we may not have room.

I agree. Buford would be a huge addition.

My thinking is that the injury will not be a deciding factor when he decides to turn pro. His progress on the court will be the key.

Lengthy, so bear with me...

I could not be happier about bringing in Koufos and Diebler together. A 6-5 guard who is in range the moment he steps into the gym and brings all the intangibles to the game and a 7-footer who can score both inside and out and is a great leader and plays with incredible intensity? You could bring in just about anyone you want with those two and it is going to be a great class. But then adding a bruising post player in the 6-9 Lauderdale, who will continue to develop, and possibly a dynamic scorer from the wing who can also makes plays at the rim in 6-8 Alex Tyus and you are talking about a class, should it come to fruition, that to me is almost (almost) as incredible as the one before it.

Fast forward to 2008 and you already have a do everyting 1/2 combo guard in Walter Offutt who I think will continue to improve as his knee heals and he regains his confidence in his knee and his game. He is a great floor general, even when not playing the point, and is a great passer who can also get you a couple of boards and steals. He's the kind of guy that is never going to light up the box score, but I think will consistently give you 10-15 points, 5 boards, 4 assists and a couple of steals every night. Call him the David Lighty of the '08 class. You have a 7-footer in Mullens who, to be honest, I was concerned about being offered and accepting so young and playing against some weaker compeition. But obviously from all we have heard, Mullens is steadily improving his game, transferring to a bigger school and developing his inside game to the point where he was more than able to hang with guys like Koufos and Lauderdale at the OSU team camp. Then factor in that we are sitting pretty with Noopy Crater, who I think, with the exception of Mayo and Rose in the '07 class, may be the top PG in the country regardless of class and a 6-8 PF in Delvon Roe who as recently as yesterday was being compared to Antawn Jamison by scouts and it's obvious that the '08 class could be just as good as the two before it.

Anybody in addition to the kids I've mentioned that we have a shot at sneaking into one of these classes (Mayo, Gates, Jackson, Buford, Frease) and that is just an abundance of riches. What a great time to be a Buckeye football AND basketball fan!

The funny thing is that the one school who could compete with those kinds of classes the next two years that you wouldn't expect, until Huggy got there, is KSU. Obviously UNC put together an unreal class last year and is shaping up to do the same in '07. That doesn't surprise anybody. But in the update from the NBA camp I thought it was interesting that Kansas State is said to really be turning up the heat on Alex Legion and Herb Pope. If they are able to land Mayo and Walker, Legion and Pope would definitely have to think about it. They are also pursuing a 5-star 6-8 PF from Oak Hill named Michael Beasley and a 4-star 6-7 PF from Pittsburgh named DeJuan Blair. KSU has also already offered a kid that might be the top swingman in the '08 class, Terrelle Pryor (also from the Pittsburgh area), who is a 6-6 scorer who likes to play in the lane and is an AAU teammate of Blair's. Last year KSU brought in a 4-star SG (6-1 Blake Young) and C (7-2 Jason Bennett) and a 3-star PF (6-10 Luis Colon). Just looking at the '06 and '07 classes and comparing the two (uncommitted players in italics):

'06 OSU
PG - Conley
SG - Cook
SF - Lighty
PF - Hunter
C - Oden

'06 KSU
PG -
SG - Blake Young
SF -
PF - Luis Colon
C - Jason Bennett

'07 OSU
PG -
SG - Diebler
SF - Tyus
PF - Kofous
C - Lauderdale

'07 KSU
PG - Mayo
SG - Legion
SF - Walker
PF - Pope/Blair
C -

Now there is zero question that I would take our '06 and our potential '07 class over KSU's '06 class or potential '07 class, individually or collectively. But Huggins certainly could have things headed in an entirely different direction in Manhattan in a short period of time...

Well, the wheels are already in motion. There are more and more people that think Walker ends up in Manhattan and Mayo ends up either overseas or in L.A., Columbus or possibly even at Xavier, but KSU did get the ball rolling by getting Beasely to verbal. Huggy is going to make them a contender sooner rather than later.

I guess replace Tyus' name with Turner on my long post.

A part of me was kind of looking forward to seeing Tyus in the S&G. Maybe there is a way that it still happens? Not likely but it is not impossible.
