Basketball Recruiting Projections/General Discussions

Eighteen BCS teams were penalized, eight in men's and women's basketball and two in football. Of those, only four teams -- Kansas State, Purdue, Southern California and Tennessee -- made the NCAA men's basketball tournament and all four could lose up to two scholarships next season if a player leaves school while academically ineligible.

This is what frightens me if Ohio State continues to recruit one and done basketball players who do not finish their Spring quarter. I will bet odds that when the APR report is sent out next year that we will lose a scholarship for the 2009 recruiting period if Kostas did that finish his coursework this Spring.

Mullens was a very early commit to Ohio State... maybe not eighth-grade but shortly thereafter.

Unlike Demling, Mullens was a very solid 6' 10'' (and still growing) and ranked in the top 5 of his class when he was offered and commited. In addition, (as I remember) he wanted to fulfill a promise he made to his dying father that he would attend Ohio State, so there really wasn't any question about him going anywhere else.

If Buford and BJ both leave and they are ineligible we will get hit hard. I think our multi-year APR using 2006-2007 as the last academic year was around 908. There is a link in the article to all schools APR for all sports. I don't know how to import the table I posted the link to the report for all schools somewhere under football

I remember that quote. I read it in the Dispatch when he first said that he was going to come to Ohio State.

I had just started to hear about him during the AAU season, and hadn't had a chance to really get much more other than UK being the early favorite, but it looks like there wont be much more in terms of our recruiting...

Too early to tell...But is it really a lose when the kid liked UK that much and verballed this early...

I checked out one of the UK boards and it seemed they were pretty excited about Zollo. It's believed that he will end up being a 7 footer. He definitely sounds like a player. There's a lot of talk about him transferring to a Lexington area high school which coupled with the very early commitment makes me think OSU never had a chance.

It seems like basketball recruiting has been a little quiet since we picked up the 2 JUCO's. I know we have a loaded class on the way in '10, but I was wondering if the bball "elitists" have any idea as to if we're looking at taking 1 or 2 for the '09 class.
I know a few that have been mentioned early on like Orton, Riley, and Sidney, and while I'd love Orton or Sidney, I'm not sure what kind of shot we have at either of them. Also, from what I've been hearing, Riley didn't have a strong '08 and he's been sliding down the rankings and he might be more of a "project" type player.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on, I just haven't heard a whole lot lately and figured I'd chime in with some questions. Thanks to those of you that keep the updates on basketball coming, it's much appreciated.

Well you know at this point what most of us know...

no one guy has stuck out and has us as his leader yet...We know we need at least one big maybe two, and we might take a guard/wing as well...

We have 2 ships to use, and no one is quite sure who they are going to be used on at this point...

The 2009 class is a down year in Ohio and most of the midwest for top prospects......a ton of top prospects have Ohio State on their list but most are out of are recruiting base......Orton is #1 on my list.

The thing that is kinda crazy about the midwest being down and us not even having a commit yet, is that the big ten has already nabbed 15 of the top 150, and you have to figure we will add a guy or two from that list, Van Treese is likely destined for somewhere in the big ten and he is on the list, and maybe a couple more...

20 or so guys from the top 150 going to the big ten is going to up the level of play, and the 2010 class for the big ten looks to be even better as we have 3 guys that will be mainstays in the top 30, Illinois should get at least 2 guys in the top 30, Wisky has a couple, and look for MSU, IU to nab a few...
