If you ask me.......both are longshots........

Certainly not his father Phil If Joseph and Pressey are both long shots for 2010 who might be a short shot. How do things look with Dority or might even take a look at Howard again if we have not backed off of him. I don't know because he still is listed with a "Official Offer".

If it was up to me I would get back in on Po Howard...I was real impressed with him when I saw him on tv...

Not sure that Joseph is the longshot that many think either...

If JD qualifies and gets an offer, maybe we could just recruit the All Ohio starting five and then we could get Staten in that deal. Sibert is considered to be a starter. That would be a big recruiting class with the out-of-state guys

Ohio State keeps recruiting clean
Men's basketball coach makes the university's quality a selling point.

Unscrupulous actions by collegiate coaches to gain an advantage in recruiting are as old as collegiate athletics themselves. Recent allegations that Southern California men?s basketball coach Tim Floyd had delivered an envelope containing $1,000 to a person connected with former Trojan player O.J. Mayo is not necessarily surprising, it?s just the most recent story regarding this subject.

When it comes to securing the services of top high school athletes, coaches often step outside the boundaries of not just the NCAA manual, but morality and legality as well.

No coach has been more successful at recruiting the top basketball players in the country in recent years than Ohio State?s Thad Matta. What is also notable is the fact that Matta has performed this task without a hint of trouble from the NCAA.

?I tell kids up front in the recruiting process, ?What you see is what you get with me,?? Matta said of his philosophy. ?I don?t want a kid to show up (at Ohio State) and say, ?You remember the guy who recruited me? That?s not the guy who?s here.??

One thing that Matta has used to his advantage that other coaches can not lay claim to is the quality of the university that he represents.

?The biggest (selling point) is that I work at the most powerful university in the country,? Matta stated proudly. ?(Ohio State) is a fascinating place and it has the resources to do things not just for the athletes, but the students (also). That?s the first thing we sell.?

Better than Thad's lads?

With point guard John Wall announcing this morning his intention to sign with Kentucky, Dime Magazine wasted no time proclaiming John Calipari's first recruiting class "the single greatest in about 20 years -- perhaps ever. Greg Oden, Daequan Cook, Mike Conley and David Lighty at Ohio State in 2006 don?t even compare to this."

We checked Rivals.com and Scout.com and, for what it's worth, they don't.

The rankings of Kentucky's top four freshman total 48 in Rivals and 59 in Scout. Ohio State's four freshmen had collective totals of 68 in Rivals and 73 in Scout. Kentucky has a fifth freshman but we did not include him because the fifth member of the Thad Five, Othello Hunter, was a junior-college transfer and unranked.

Then again, let's wait a year to see if Cal's kids are better. Will Kentucky not only get to the NCAA championship game but win it? Will three of the freshmen be among the first 21 picks in the 2010 draft?

On another topic regarding Kentucky basketball, they currently have 16 players on their roster or who are committed for next year and this does not include Jody Meeks who is testing the waters regarding the NBA draft. I guess some of these kids want to play for Kentucky so bad they're willing to pay their own way... I guess.

Looks like another "Tubby Smith"-esce purging is about to take place.

Instead of all the inconsequential BS the NCAA concentrates on to fill their coffers and keep them in business wasting time, I wish they'd stop this sleazy mass booting stuff. They really should make it so you cannot oversign PERIOD! They also should make all ships at least 4 years no cut so the kids can't be booted without their consent ( they can xfer on their own but not have their ship just pulled from under them ).

If what you are saying is correct, they will have to pull as many as 4 ships out from under kids to make room. That is just not acceptable, IMO! I know u were joking but they cannot pay their own way unless they were walk-ons before they went on GIA. They will have to find new teams or quit playing. One or two is BAAD, but four is ridiculous! Were all 17 recruited GIA players?

I can't say that all of these guys have signed their LOI but 16 is the number of guys that are currently on the roster and guys who have said they are going to go to Big Blue country

Sounds like Wall, Cousins & Bledsoe may still have academic work to do in order to qualify. If they make it then some of Gillispie's guys are likely gonna get the boot.

edit: Just noticed there is a question about OSU '10 PG recruiting. Trevor Releford is a name I have not previously heard mentioned.

Presently, Phil Pressey, Cory Joseph, Trevor Releford, Joe Jackson and Lavonte Dority are on the Ohio State hot board at the point guard position. Pressey and Jackson are highly unlikely to be Buckeyes in my opinion. Ohio State does have a good shot at Joseph, whom they and most of the rest of the country have offered. Releford and Dority might be more realistic options.
