BuckeyeGrove.com - AAU Nationals: 16U action rules the day (free)
Quote:
Despite getting limited touches in the team's offense on Monday, Ohio State bound center Jared Sullinger makes it work when he gets the opportunity.
When Sullinger gets his backside anchored on a defender and when position is established, forget about it. The big man is going to score and he's winning the post battle. The five-star big man finished with 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 FT) and 13 rebounds in the match-up.

What else can be said about his dominance at the 16-and-under level that hasn't already been said this year? There wasn't a player that could stop him or even really slow him down. The future Ohio State center was a man against boys all season long and he helped his team close out the year with a 69-1 record dating back to March. For the second year in a row, Sullinger helped All Ohio win the Nationals and nearly every coach that watched the team play wondered aloud, "How good would Sullinger and All Ohio be at the 17-and-under level?" Chances are, Sullinger and his boys would have been a shoe-in for the elite eight and potentially even further.

OSU men's basketball: Big things ahead for this Sullinger
OSU recruit staying busy this summer across the country
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
By Bob Baptist
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

NEAL C. LAURON Dispatch
Jared Sullinger and his father and coach, Satch, would like to see Northland win a state title next spring.
Reggie Rankin remembers the year he coached the ninth-grade team at Beechcroft High School, driving over to varsity coach Satch Sullinger's home for his scouting assignments and seeing the baby of the family in his crib.
"Jared was so damn big, he'd shake the crib (so hard) I thought the thing was coming down," said Rankin, a former player at Linden and Ohio University. "He was a huge baby."
Jared Sullinger is still big, and getting bigger.
Fresh from helping his AAU team, All-Ohio Red, to a second consecutive age-group national championship last week in Orlando, Fla., the 6-foot-7 junior at Northland -- where his dad now coaches -- is off to Dallas this week. He is among 14 players in his 16-year-old age group selected to represent the United States in the adidas Nations tournament, which begins Thursday. Teams from Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and Latin America also will participate.
He also has been invited to the Elite 24 game Aug. 22 in Rucker Park in New York. It will be televised by ESPN.
One weekend a month since April, adidas has flown Sullinger and his teammates to different locations -- Portland, Ore., Newark, N.J., and Los Angeles -- for two-day training camps in preparation for the Nations tournament.
Wearing his adidas gear, "It's pretty cool walking through the airport," Sullinger said. "Everybody looks at you (wondering) if you're an NBA player or not."
And what does he say if asked?
"Just an ordinary basketball player from Columbus, Ohio," he said.

Getting picked to go to Rucker Park is sweet
Almost the best thing about the article above .
Quote:
Sullinger has room to grow; an examination when he had his broken foot last year revealed his growth plates to still be open, his father said. "They said he could be a 7-footer," said Satch, who is 6-8.
Of concern to some observers is not how tall but how wide Sullinger might get. He gained weight while he was injured last summer, and he checked in at 262 pounds for a tournament in St. Louis in June. But he said this week he weighs between 245 and 250.
