I just couldn't help myself here. C.J. is a beast...I had no idea he was a freshman until about a week ago. I go to Fuquay-Varina High School...which is close to Holly Springs High...as a matter of fact we had a bunch of people redistricted to go there. I went to the Middle Creek vs. Holly Springs game, expecting a blowout (Holly Springs is all freshmen and sophomores).
And well...I got one. Middle Creek destroyed Holly Springs. But watching C.J....that kid is going to be special. He had something like 30 points, but his team was losing by about 40. Frustrated, he dribbles the ball down the court, and just goes up and dunks on 6'9" Marcus Kitts, Middle Creek's best player who has a full ride to William and Mary...just SLAMS it on him. Middle Creek's loud student section just shut up for about 30 seconds straight. Then, when I asked someone about "that kid on Holly Springs", I was told he is being scouted by Ohio State. And..well...that's how I found this.
Word is, we get to play against him in my rec league. I'm praying to god he drops less than 40 on us.

Sorry I never saw your post, and I hope you hang around and follow the recruitment of your local guy...but do people in NC really notice when Ohio State is recruiting someone? I figured it would only catch attention if the ACC teams were involved. The Bucks must have really been one of the first teams in on CJ, which tells us all alot about how tireless Matta can be on the recruiting trail. I think Matta's at a great advantage to focus so much on guys in 09 and 10, seeing as he has 08 just about wrapped up already.

Leslie already picks Pack basketball
Holly Springs sophomore commits early
Tim Stevens, Staff Writer
In what may be the earliest commitment ever to N.C. State, C.J. Leslie, a 6-foot-9 basketball player who just completed his freshman year at Holly Springs, has committed to the Wolfpack. Leslie's decision came on Friday, while he was 15 years old. He turned 16 on Monday.
Why so early?
"I grew up as a State and [North] Carolina fan," Leslie said Monday morning. "I know I want to go to State. I know the coaches there and the program, and that is where I want to go to school."
Holly Springs opened this past fall with freshmen and sophomores. Leslie averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots on a 1-24 team.
"C.J. had a national reputation before his freshman year," Holly Springs coach Thurman Jordan said. "On the second day of school last fall, Ohio State called about him. I had just met him.
