One of his teammates is Thomas, the Bishop Luers superstar who is positioned to become the greatest high school scorer in state history.

The 6-6, 208-pound Thomas has 2,254 career points. The state record of 3,134 is held by Damon Bailey. Thomas needs to average at least 34 points as a senior to surpass Bailey. He averaged 30.3 points last season.

Thomas, who is committed to Ohio State, is ranked among the nation?s top 15 players and top five power forwards by national recruiting services.

?He is one of those guys who just produces,? Telep said. ?He?s a guy you can always count on to get his numbers. He?ll probably start collegiately playing the 4 (power forward), but he has good skills to step away from the basket and shoot.

?He uses his left hand deceptively well. He can kind of sneak up on you with that big body and being a lefty. To me, he?ll be one of the top three to four guys nationally at the power forward spot.?

This does not worry me in the least. If you had your pick between the two players who would you take Maybe Thomas had a bad hair day and Cameron had a good one.

yah i agree...i would much rather have thomas....also wright has the most to prove out of the 2 since he no longer has a offer from us

Deshaun Thomas of Spiece Indy Heat represented the negative side of what I saw today. He is basically a 6-6 power forward. He can step out and knock down the occasional long ball, but he is far from a small forward at the college level or beyond. He was hyped very early in his career with good reason, at the time. He has not grown since his freshman year and the advantages he came into high school with are not serving him quite as well, as other players in his class have passed him in the skill development department. His body language and attitude are horrible, which resulted in a technical being called on him during a game yesterday. He has been an Ohio State commit for the last 3 years and it will be interesting to see if he ever lives up to the hype of his younger days. I am willing to give him a pass for his lackluster play, but in the game and a half that I have watched of him, I don't see a top 10 nationally ranked player.

Thats one thing Matta does in which I don't like. Early offers then, if the player doesn't improve the schollie gone. Not sure hows it handled between Matta and the recruit but, that would get me thinking if I was an early commit.

No offense but I will wait for 40 or junkie to chime in on this. The talk earlier in the summer is that his game is still improving and he could take the Indiana scoring title this year.

Are we getting excited about one persons opinion based on a game and a half?

As for "pulling ships" I always jump on other coaches when they do it, but when it is one of our own I try to rationalize.

If a kid doesn't progress and the coach feels he no longer fits in his plans, the coach should let the kid know that. If that is what happens I wouldn't call it pulling a ship.

Talk about overreaction. WOW! One guy says he's overrated and all of a sudden people with NO CLUE think Matta will rethink the offer. Thomas is HANDS DOWN the 2nd best recruit of the 5 in the class right now. There is NO WAY Matta would back off him. Thomas is still a McD's AA lock and a T15 talent in the class. Wright ( not rated ) and Golden ( about 75-100 but slipping as a 6'1 2G ) were very different cases and involved Groce recruiting them and the staff's change-of-heart when Groce left. Matta has recruited DT from the start!

well Matta has done that twice already and I can understand that too a point with respect but, that has to bother young kids being recruiting by any coach. One day your going to this college then, two years later your told whatever Matta/coach would say and your going elsewhere.
Don't get me wrong, OSU has never had a coach like Matta when it comes to recruiting the top players but, what do you tell a soph/fresh COMMITTMENT, HEY, KEEP ON IMPROVING AND YOU CAN BE A BUCKEYE BUT, IF YOU HIT YOUR MAX, SORRY. Matta is the king of recruiting and dealing with the young kids but, I would love to know how he does it without damaging his own recruiting style.
