Wish I could go to this one tonight. No such luck.

It's a playoff season of tears and cheers
Friday, March 07, 2008
Canton- Youth vs. age.
It was the outrageously young Benedictine Bengals, powered by a pair of sopho mores and not a sin gle senior see ing court time. Their coach is a kid, too, as Rob Stircula is in only his third year.
On the other sideline was Akron Hoban with 10 seniors and coach T.K. Griffith, owning a 232-104 record in 15 seasons.
 The final verdict?
It was Benedictine 62, Hoban 53 in the Division II regional semifinals at Canton Civic Center Thursday night.

The difference may have been that the Bengals had Cameron Wright. You may know Wright has orally accepted an offer to play basketball at Ohio State. But that won't be until late in 2010, because the 6-5 forward is only a sophomore.
Not many fans realize Wright has a 3.9 grade-point average. Or that the long, lean athlete has "ice water in his veins," according to Hoban's Griffith. That's because Wright was 4-of-4 from the foul line in the final 90 seconds.
"He's even better than I thought," said Griffith. "He made shots with hands in his face. He was unselfish and under control."
Give Wright 16 points.

Balanced Bengals top Knights
Friday, March 07, 2008 Tim Warsinskey
Plain Dealer Reporter
Canton -- Cameron Wright is a quick learner.
"Last year, we had to overcome our attitudes," said Wright, Benedictine's sensational sophomore. "This year, there's more team unity and we know we're not going to win without each other."
The Bengals' unselfish and relentless attack keyed a 62-53 victory over Hoban in a Division II regional semifinal Thursday in the Civic Center.
All five Benedictine starters scored between nine and 16 points, with Wright grabbing scoring honors. Sophomore guard Derek Jackson had 14 points, but perhaps more important were the contributions of the other three starters.

Benedictine boys basketball team falls to Poland Seminary in Division II regional final
Monday, March 10, 2008 Bob Migra
Special to The Plain Dealer
Canton -- Two brief scoring lulls cost Benedictine in the Division II boys basketball regional championship game Sunday afternoon.
Other than a 3?-minute scoreless stretch in the second quarter and a three-minute drought in the third, the Bengals outplayed unbeaten Poland Seminary in front of an announced crowd of 1,844 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
But when you are play ing a team that averages more than 90 points per game, any down time on offense can be fatal.

Sophomore guard Cameron Wright led Benedictine with 29 points. Derek Jackson, another sophomore, scored 14.
Wright agreed with his coach about the two stretches that cost the Bengals. "We stopped ourselves," he said. "We had some mental lapses. It's a tough loss to take. Next year we'll just have to come back stronger."
