I've actually read quite a few people praise his great performance yesterday. He did a great job. We have found our successor to Brandon Joe.

Yeah he made the runs on the goaline much easier for Joe. He absolutlely blew his guy up. I think he is going to be a great FB. He does need to learn to run a little closer to the goal line prior to trying to jump in ...

There were at least 3 plays where you could hear his pads blast the guy he was blocking, even over the very loud crowd. A couple of these were at the start of the 97 and 99 yard drives, deep within our own territory.
It was great to see, and hear! |

When he was recruited, I was really hoping that as the son of a Buckeye great and coach that Dionte would light things up for us at FB. As much as we have focused on the TB position, one of the problems we've had on offense has been effective blocking on both running and passing plays from the FB due to BJoe's injuries. DJ is killing people, and it's awesome to see from a young player.

More Dionte Johnson please!!!
Nothing like an Ohio State Legacy! Watched the Game on TiVo last night and Dionte Johnson really deserves some major credit for sparking the running game. Not to take away a thing from the Big Hog-mollies upfront, but DJ is a special fullback. I think he really brings an attitude to the team when he enters the game. No, not more Cow-bell We Need More Dionte's Bell ringing blocks!!!! Congrats to the coaches for finally playing this stud..... on a side note, Wow!!! Kirk Barton is really standing out on the O-line, IMHO, love to hear EX-Hawg's insight on the improvement of our O-lines play. |

HERE, HERE! i noticed this from the get-go on Saturday. even Pittman said that he loves running behind him in the I-formation.
who knows... maybe we've got a good I-formation team after all... ![]() |

I agree that Dionte is special, especially on those blocks between the tackles. Perhaps JT might even allow DJ a few of those power carries near the endzone since BS can't hold onto the ball.

amen to this. BillG made a good observation that Tressel was more conservative in this game, but we just executed better. We won't have that success in the running game every week, but it seems to be widely thought that DJ is too good of a blocker to sit on the sidelines. Besides OL issues, our running game has struggled recently due to the lack of a great RB. Great power running attacks usually have a great FB (ie Dudley in 04 vs. 05 UM rushing woes)

Is DJ versatile enough to play in the Shot-Ginn formation, like Schnittker? I really like Johnson, and if he plays everyday the way he played vs. Iowa, the Bucks are looking good. I'd like to see him on the field more, but I also like the spread offense. Maybe the option play is out with him on the field, but if he can pass block and catch passes, maybe he'd be good out there? |

I love watching Dionte blast linebackers between the tackles. But the word is he has trouble blocking on the perimeter. I thought Stan White had several good blocks out on the perimeter against Iowa. Together, the two of them make one heckuva wrecking crew.

BS sucks. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but, clearly, there is a reason why he didn't play much in his first three years. I agree that DJ ought to be getting reps along with White. He runs hard and hits like a fullback should.

Is Dionte Johnson the son of former running back, Pete Johnson?
