Henton reminds me of former Bearcat QB, Deontey Kenner! Remember the "99" Cinci game? Bucks won , like 32 to 20 and Joe Daniels was the Cinci O coordinator. Tough game! Kenner drove our defense crazy that day!

Matt (Chicago): What can you tell usabout the QB who just verballed to Ohio State?

<!-- displayed mode --> Tom Luginbill: (4:38 PM ET ) If you're referring to Antonio Henton out of Georgia, he is a pure drop back passer QB with the athleticism to buy 2nd chances with his feet and make plays with his legs downfield. He's got the arm to make all the throws you need to make at the college level, he's got an excellent receiver core right now in high school (Chris Slaughter, a nationally recruited WR). One of the things I liked about Antonio Henton when I watched him was that he's a very accurate deep ball thrower and he displays excellent touch when he needs to lay the ball in over close coverage. It will be nice for the buckeyes to have some athleticism at the QB position.

It will be especially nice for the Buckeyes to have some more athleticism at the QB position, considering that if everything plays out as most people envision, a switch back to the "non-athletic" QB would mean a new (old?) playbook. If Troy Smith holds down the job these next 2 years, it would help Henton's transition into the system, because I feel he is most likely (of what we now have) to duplicate TS, and utilize the players who join the team to play that type of football. With absolutely nothing against Zwick, Boeckman, or Schoenhoft, it's pretty nice to see that we will have unlimited options with the playbook for years to come. And by no means am I implying that our bigger QB's don't have athleticism. You don't get to OSU by being a stick in the mud. However, it seems that the trend is now "one more of these, one more of those" when referring to dropback QB's/running QB's. I see this trend continuing. As I hope future recruits see this continuing.

I updated Henton as a 3-star in our database. Yeah, he's not rated yet (at least not by Rivals), but with his being in the top 50 players in Georgia, I'd say that equates to a 3-star rating for now. I hate seeing him listed with only one star on our list.

From what Ive read about this kid and how he performed at camp, it would seem to me that the so called "guru's" have seriously missed on this young man.

I would guess that when all is said and done, Henton will be a 4-star...

His commitment got mentioned in this week's Sports Illustrated.

Page 29, article titled OSU-Turn:

"The announcement of Oden's commitment overshadowed the decision last week of Antonio Henton, a top quarterback prospect, to sign with OSU, which has also snagged Akron's Chris Wells, the nation's top high school running back."

Does anyone think with Zwick struggling to find himself and Smith being unreliable that maybe Henton might make some noise and get some playing time his Freshman year? I for one think he has a good shot!(I didn't say I believe he would start, but that he has a shot)

Um no, I think there's about 0% chance of that happening. Boeckman will be in his fourth year at OSU IIRC at that point (thanks to grayshirting then redshirting). He's clearly the third option over Henton.

There's just too much to pick up to start during your freshman year... unless you don't have other QBs. We will have four with more experience, and three veterans to the program.

I would also think that QB's will be red-shirted as often as possible. It's a lot to learn in a few weeks of fall practice.

Also, remember Rob Schoencroft (I'm not sure I got the spelling)? He's going to be a year ahead in experience.

he may be a year ahead in experience but the coaches may be looking for the dual-threat quarterback. therefore if he graduates early and picks up the system quickly, there is a chance that he gets PT if smith and all the rest underperform. i agree with you though, we will already have 4 quarterbacks on the roster when he comes into town, so im going to guess and say he redshirts so he will be available down the line.
