Oh8ch, Mili, and others made the point that I would have. At the start of last year, Henton had a chance to get real playing time and play his way into the starting role. That bust robbed him of that opportunity. Whether he was guilty of something or not. There is absolutely no reason that this could not have been handled more expeditiously.

In the end, he got a slap on the wrist, in court, but his entire life has been altered. Just doesn't seem fair to me at all.

imagine it; hotly contested recruit chooses ohio state, michigan player transfers to ohio state due scUM's new coach, ohio state backup quarterback transfers to michigan because of the recruit where his talents will be more utilized and plays against former team. it's like the script of a movie.

I have to agree with your friends. The Game is a rivalry. Henton has no axe to grind with Ohio State, with the Columbus Police Department, sure, but not Ohio State. He probably has assessed that Pryor is "all that" and that his opportunities of getting playing time are now severely limited. So, he's not leaving because of some anger against the program. His being at TSUN wouldn't impact on the rivalry because no one at Ohio State has issues with him either.

Life has lots of twists and turns and sometimes the ball bounces differently than you'd like. Wanting to run over TSUN every November is one of those things that's a constant in life.

So, Henton to TSUN?

Well, that's not going to happen...think about it. He has already burnt a redshirt year, so two of his maximum of five years are gone. If he goes to Michigan (or any other Big Ten school), not only does he have to sit out another year (D-I to D-I transfer rules), he has to foot his own bill, which can't be cheap at a school like Michigan. It's not an option for him in the slightest...

It appears Ohio State could head into the 2008 season with no experience at backup quarterback.
Several sources close to the team said that Antonio Henton is expected to transfer to Georgia Southern. Coach Jim Tressel refused to confirm the move, saying only that Henton "is a good kid." As of last night, sources said Henton had not told team officials he was leaving.
If Henton leaves, the job of backing up starter Todd Boeckman will fall to redshirt freshman Joe Bauserman and true freshman Terrelle Pryor.
Attempts to reach Henton and his family were unsuccessful, but it appears he decided that playing for Georgia Southern in the Football Championship Subdivision -- formerly Division I-AA -- is better than the possibility of being third string this fall and losing out the starting job in 2009 to Pryor, the top high school recruit in the nation.

I believe the rules are:

Transferring inter-conference, the player must sit a year and can not go on scholarship at the new school.

Transferring 1A to 1A, the player must sit a year

Transferring 1A to 1AA, the player can play immediately, if the student is academically eligible.

The question on the floor is 1AA to 1A.

Inter-conference rules on scholarship are set by the conference and vary from one conference to another.

Henton has no ax to grind with Ohio State,

The idea of Henton going to UM falls under the category of silly speculation. However, were I Henton I would have an axe to grind. JTs policy of sitting till your case is resolved in the courts - even if that knowingly results in more punishment than if you were guilty - is unfair. I have said this before and most others have disagreed - but I feel strongly that the kid got the shaft.

I still believe that someone at the prosecutor's office leaked the Henton arrest video so that there would be some vindication for him in the public arena. That arrest and prosecution was a misjustice. And the judge who lectured Henton at the initial hearing, for all the world to see on TV, should be ashamed of herself.

Innocent until proven guilty? Is this kinda commie propoganda allowed on BP or at OSU? Is this concept something that OSU players/students/fans should know/learn anything about? What's next...coaches believing that they should be teachers too?

We have reached a point of overall depth where kids will leave rather then sit on the bench. That's a very good situation!

UPDATE: Former Peach County star Henton heading ?home?

Transferring from a big program to a smaller program worked well for Dusty Bonner and Fabian Walker.

The smaller program in both cases was Valdosta State, led by head coach Chris Hatcher.

That equation appears to be the right one for Antonio Henton, albeit with a different destination.

A source in Statesboro confirmed that Henton is leaving Ohio State ? following almost two days of published and online reports speculating on Henton?s decision - and will join Hatcher for his second season at Georgia Southern.

The former Peach County star hasn?t made it public, but has reportedly told teammates of his intent to move from Columbus, Ohio, to Statesboro with plans to be in uniform and on the field for the 2008 season.

Henton will be eligible to play this year, transferring ?down? from a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) team to a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) team.

Peach County head coach Chad Campbell, an assistant during Henton?s days as a Trojan, did confirm that there was movement.

?It?s a good possibility,? he said Friday.

Hatcher, a Macon native who begins his second year at GSU this fall, was in a meeting today.

?I can?t say anything,? he said. ?I haven?t been taking any media calls. I just can?t say anything.?

Bad luck for him. What's the chances OSU lands the #1 prospect (a QB) on his time at OSU. Good luck to him if he goes to Ga Southern. Bet he has a fabulous career there.

Antonio has a hell of a long ball, his wind-up reminds me of Dontrell Willis. He can also scramble for days. I feel sorry for the Defensive Coordinators down there.
