exactly...this is going to be a pretty long agreement, but bear with me. Henton is definitely much more in the mold of the "Troy Smith versus Michigan State, Indiana and Minnesota" mold rather than the "Troy Smith versus Penn State, Iowa and San Diego State" mold, which exactly what the coaches want. they want a kid who can survey the field and use his feet as well as his arm to find open receivers. Troy came in as much more of a runner and has worked hard to fight that tendency. Here is an interesting trend I noticed over the last 6 games...look at the numbers:

14 completions versus 14 rushing attempts against SDSU
13 completions versus 18 rushing attempts against Iowa
13 completions versus 19 rushing attempts against Penn State
10 completions versus 7 rushing attempts against Michigan State
14 completions versus 12 rushing attempts against Indiana
14 completions versus 11 rushing attempts against Minnesota

1st three games: as many or more rushes than completions (40 completions/51 rushes)
2nd three games: more completions than rushes (38 completions/30 rushes)
conclusion: Troy is using his feet more as a means of being a mobile QB, rather than being a pure runner

This is part of the reason why I am so high on Henton...his video is exactly like CBF40 explained it...he uses his feet to "elude pressure and find the open receiver"...not just to run. The last three games are proof that a QB with some mobility and a strong arm is exactly what a JT offense with so many weapons on the perimeter needs. I think Henton can come in and be that guy with a few years of experience under his belt.

Let me also just preface all of this by stating that I do not think that a QB like Schoenhoft, who is much more of a pocket passer than Smith or Henton (or even Boeckman for that matter) can't be successful in this offense. Robbie obviously has a great arm and has showed better escapability than some of his predecessors at OSU. but I think the trend of mobile QBs in college football and the NFL is obvious. Just look at the Big 10 at how many QBs are adapt at moving around and creating time...Stocco, Robinson, Brasic, Stanton (not against OSU ), Kirsch and Powers are all relatively mobile. As a matter of fact, Henne is the only starting QB in the Big 10 with negative rushing yards on the year.

So my point is: I agree with cbf40.

It is not an overly deep year for quarterbacks in the south, but there are several interesting storylines with the game's glamour position.

First, the talent at the top of the heap is as good as its ever been. Mitch Mustain and Tim Tebow are big time talents.

Second, it's interesting that schools in the SEC have gone out of region to get their quarterbacks while schools from out of the region have come to the south to get theirs. For example, Georgia and Florida went to Texas to get quarterbacks Matt Stafford and Jevan Snead respectively. LSU went to Utah to get Alex Cate. While Ohio State and Michigan came to the Peach State to get quarterbacks Antonio Henton and David Cone.

Third, Cobb County in the state of Georgia is what I've called the heart of suburbia (I've lived there most of my life). There are five or six 5A schools within 10 minutes of my house. Why is this interesting? Well, it's not, except that Cobb County has turned into ACC Quarterback Country.

T.J. Yates of Pope is headed to North Carolina. Ross Applegate of Walton is committed to Boston College, and Zach MacDowell of Harrison is committed to Wake Forest.

Walton and Pope are within a stone throw of one another. In fact when Pope opened in 1987, it drew about 30% of its students from Walton, and Harrison and Walton play one another in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday night at Harrison.

Yates, Applegate, and MacDowell have been playing against one another for a long time, and it's going to continue for the next four or five years.

Henton and his Peach County team opened up with a 43-0 win over Cross Creek last night for the first round of the state playoffs. Henton was was 4-9 passing for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 4 times for 60 yards.

The kid impressed at OSU camp. That was huge and led to the offer. He was under rated at the time and now we have a highly rated guy, for what it's worth. He is much more polished than Smith was. He seems to be a great kid , too!

Henton led his Peach County team to a 40-13 win in the second round of the playoffs tonight. They will face off against Stephens County in the third round and the winner will head to the Georgia Dome. I will try in get stats sometime tomorrow for everybody!!

My first post on this, the greatest of websites in the known universe, I said I was hoping to see a peach co. game in person this year.

This, unfortunately, did not happen....yet.

I will say this. Northside (houston county) GA, beat peach county early in the season when henton was hurt. there may be a rematch in the playoffs.

I work with peach county and northside alumni. There is alot of smack being talked about a possible rematch.

Tonight at work, a small girl, shopping with her father, both wearing peach county t-shirts, were confronted by northside supporters. The NS guy says, you better hope y'all dont have to play us again.

Just when the father goes to open his mouth to reply, the girl (about eight years old) says, y'all won't stand a chance this time, we have our QB back now!

I, wearing my tOSU hat, winked at her daddy, and told him, "we" got your QB too! I really hope I get to see him play this year. from what i have heard down here, the Peach county Trojans are known for athletic QB's, and he is by far the best in a long time. this is coming from people who have played peach county before henton, and against him. I CANT WAIT UNTILL HE WEARS THE SCARLET AND GREY!!!

Well Mr. Henton had a great night for his Peach County Trojans. He was 9-14 for 220 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air. This team is clicking and i believe its because of Henton's health. Once he came back the team just took off!!

Peach passes 2nd test

<!-- begin body-content --> FORT VALLEY - In its first game of the 2005 GHSA Class AAA playoffs, Peach County's passing game wasn't all that sharp.
In its second game, Peach County's passing game sliced and diced, impressed and depressed.
Antonio Henton threw five first-half touchdown asses and Chris Slaughter caught three of them as the Trojans rolled past Northside-Columbus 40-13 Friday night. The win moved Peach (9-3) into the quarterfinals where it will entertain Stephens County, a 21-15 winner against Cartersville.
The numbers at halftime alone were almost ridiculous for the Trojans.
Henton had completed 9 of 14 passes for 220 yards while Slaughter caught six of passes for 193 yards. The 6-foot-4 Slaughter was able to roam freely in the Northside (9-3) secondary, even when Henton bought time scrambling or lofted a pass that had a little more air under than expected.
"He was open quite a bit," said Henton, whose day was pretty much done at halftime. "One man can't handle him. Later on, they tried to double team him."
It was too late for Northside, though, which held the Trojans to three and out on their first possession. Northside kicked it back, and had Peach on its 10-yard line. That didn't last long.
Henton found Slaughter for 46 on the first play, and then for the final 42 yards two snaps later. The drive of 90 yards took up four plays and all of 62 seconds.
And that put momentum on Peach County's sideline in a big way.
The Trojans went 73 yards in six plays and 3:33 on the next trip, Henton connecting with Slaughter for 23 and 35 yards, respectively, the latter for the score.
"We had to adjust to some things they were doing," said Peach County offensive tackle Dustin Chancellor. "They tried to do a lot of twists and stunts. They came out in a different front than we expected."
Peach County coach Rance Gillespie said Northside came in with a different plan.
"They threw some defensive schemes at us that they hadn't shown all year. I was really pleased with the way our kids adjusted to 'em quickly," Gillespie said.
Terry McGhee then picked off Lamar Brown's pass and returned it 26 yards to the 1-yard line. After a penalty, Henton threw to Udom Umuh for a 6-yard score.
Down 21-0 with 1:22 still left in the first, Northside drove to the Peach 35 only to go backwards and punt.
Peach County slowed a bit, then scored on a 6-play, 92-yard drive with Henton-to-Slaughter for the final 23. Another interception followed, the Trojans converting that into a Henton-to-Umuh score.
The light dimmed immediately in the second half for the Patriots, who lost 14 yards on three plays, punted 29 yards from their 6, and watched Duranzo Brown go in from 21 yards on the second snap for a 40-0 lead less than three minutes into the third.
"Our defense really got me excited," Gillespie said. "This crew has put some points up. They've played some quality football teams ... and they put up points on all those cats."
Soon enough, clean uniforms were on the field and the fourth quarter brought a running clock.
"Our kids came out and made their plays early," Gillespie said. "But the biggest thing was how our kids adjusted to the different things they showed us. That's a great thing to see."

Henton's team has advanced to the 3rd round (out of 5 rounds) in the Georgia Class AAA playoffs. A win tonight and they will play in the state semi's next Saturday (11/26) at the Georgia Dome (game time will either be 9 Am or noon).

If they make the semi's I will be at the Dome to check out our future Buckeye.

County game serves as a reminder that it's not how one starts, but how one finishes.

Peach (9-3) opened the season 0-3 and has not lost since. Stephens (11-1) started with an upset loss to Perry and responded by winning 11 in a row.

"It says a lot about the character of these kids and their ability to take a punch and get themselves off the mat," said Peach coach Rance Gillespie, whose team is in the quarterfinals for the third year in a row. "We're young. And Antonio [Henton] was not healthy early in the season. That kind of limited what we could do with the younger guys. It was just a combination of him getting well and young players growing up."

That combination has been potent. The Trojans, ranked No. 5 in Class AAA, were limited to 15 points per game against Class AAAA contender Northside-Warner Robins, Alabama's Carver and Region 1-AAAAA's Houston County to open the season. Since then, Peach is scoring 45 points a game.

A healthy Henton at quarterback has made the difference. Since rebounding from a preseason ankle injury, Henton, who committed to Ohio State, is averaging 191 passing yards per game, 23 yards per completion, and has thrown for 25 touchdowns with five interceptions.

Virtually all these fireworks are finished by wideout Chris Slaughter, who has committed to Auburn. Slaughter has 40 catches for 1,084 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also has five returns for touchdowns (three kickoff, one punt, one interception).

Stephens is a "new" team, too. After a successful stint in North Carolina, Travis Noland took over a program from longtime coach Charlie Winslette that had made the playoffs 18 of the past 19 years. Winslette moved to Gatewood School.

"Change is not easy for anybody — especially for these seniors," said Noland, whose biggest gamble was moving senior Will Cox from receiver to quarterback. "We've got 23 seniors who had to go through a ton of changes. They were a wing-T team here for nine years, and we are an [I-formation] team and we get in the shotgun. I would be lying to you if I said I did expect this."

Cox (6 feet 3, 175 pounds) has thrown 20 touchdown passes and one interception. He feeds off a running game spearheaded by sophomore Taurean Poole (5-10, 205) and junior Deshawn Scott (5-9, 180), who combine for 173 rushing yards per game.
