OK there are two Henton records in the database. Not sure what this means (LINK) - but the other record also points to Antonio Henton, living on Shakelton in Hilliard. DOB 6/20/1987 (one month different from earlier OSU and News records) - LINK. The new (09/25 filed) record showing Tasha Ruth as Henton's attorney indicates eyes maroon - hair - bald. The old record (with the 6/12/1987 DOB) had him with brown eyes, hair black.

Antonio Henton, a backup quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Municipal Court this morning on a misdemeanor charge of soliciting for prostitution.

Judge Amy Salerno set bail at $2,500.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Henton was suspended from the team indefinitely and will not travel to Minnesota for Saturday?s game.

"It's a great disappointment for our Buckeye football family, and we are very concerned for Antonio," Tressel said in a statement. "We want to help him utilize any available resources, including counseling, to deal with any problems and seek solutions. Antonio is keenly aware of the standard we have for ourselves, and that makes this even more disappointing ...

I was one of many excited about Henton (I've been tracking his progress since before he arrived on campus, like many of you), but I think what has been reported is completely ridiculous and stupid and I wouldn't feel comfortable with Henton continuing to represent Ohio State in any way shape or form, if it's true.

This isn't a booster coming to a kid offering/pressuring him with money or perks, this is a kid walking the streets looking for trouble...and he found it.

Let's not get too crazy here man. I'm not agreeing with what he did, but it isn't the end of the world. I can't imagine that this kind of thing will jeopardize his career, especially since it is a first offense on his part (team related). It's not like he robbed a kid, or beat someone down at a bar. He screwed up, but there are a lot worse crimes to be committed.

The judges comments said it all:

"Mr. Henton: I have to tell you sir that I and many fans and graduates of Ohio State University are very disappointed to see you here today in my courtroom. Considering, sir, the fact that you are an ambassador of Ohio State University; your visibility in the community, you need to keep that in mind, sir.

As well as the fact that you need to show up at court and henceforth you need to conduct yourself and comport your actions according to your status in the community, sir.

I can tell sir your head is hung down and you're looking extremely sad. I know you do not wish to disappoint your team members either sir. I will give you a $2,500 cash or surety bond or appearance bond. Gook luck sir both off and on the field. Thank You."

I'm optimistic on this. Maybe because things have been great lately..

The way I look at it is, it was a victimless crime. It still merits the suspension, but hey we haven't had a problem in awhile. Better it happened now, than the end of the year or a few years down the road when Henton is the starter (Troy Smith).. let Henton work his way out of the dog house, he'll be a better player and a person because of it.

Are you being so harsh on this kid because you view it to be a "morality issue?" Short of a violent crime, nothing in my mind is worse than taking money from a booster. It cuts to the very integrity of the athletic department and university and invites the specter of an NCAA investigation. This is a non-violent misdemeanor.

As someone who usually takes a hard line on discipline cases, I believe that you're mistaken. While Henton should certainly be strongly punished, I'm not willing to throw this kid under the bus. The Troy Smith episode taught me that sometimes kids deserve second chances. Look at where Troy Smith ended up after receiving that second chance, and IMO it has absolutely nothing to do with what he accomplished on the field. I'd have been just as proud of him had he played out his career as a backup--but accomplished the same goals in getting his act together, graduating and being accepted into graduate school.

Holy bejesus, Calm the F^^k down. If paying for sex is wrong, then why is marriage still legal?

Henton, man, sorry you got caught. If you would have waited a year or two when your Heisman stock was rising... you would have to be sorting out the campus groupies! You dont have to pay to play! You're on scholarship man!

While I agree with the judge, Coach Tressel and many posters in this thread that Henton appears to have behaved in a disappointing manner, which shows incredible disregard for his position in society as a representative of The Ohio State University and his team and for his own health in an age of HIV/AIDS, one hopes that people will not over-react.

To put this in perspective, just visit our police/legal blotter thread.

Henton has pleaded not guilty and deserves a speedy trial to resolve this matter. If he is guilty, then he may not have ruined his career but he has certainly disappointed a coach with a long memory and will pay for that, for sure.

The conversation about who is the 2 quarterback sure became a moot point quickly, didn't it?
