This is too bad (for us buckeyes) but I'm sure Antonio is doing what he thinks is best for hiim.

I still think he would have gotten plenty of PT this season.

I was looking forward to that two-headed QB monster in '09.

Means more snaps for TP in '08? I guess we'll have to wait and see how fast he gets a grasp of the offense, or at least the O package they are cooking up for him.

I'm really bummed by this. I know the conventional sentiment was that the job was TP's to lose next year, but I really thought Henton would still compete this season. Given the way TB closed out last year, I half anticipated a Zwick/Smith-type battle this season, despite all reports to the contrary. Good luck to Antonio--we'll miss him.

Not Corny Greene. Rod Gerald.

Corny was so good that he was voted MVP of the BIG 10 the year that Archie won one of his Heisman's (1975 I think).

EDIT: And Art got publicity because he replaced Rod Gerald. He did not replace Rod Gerald because he got publicity.

Was he highly touted before the fact? Sure. But he was nowhere near as hyped.

For that matter, it's not fair to compare eras. Was he as hyped relative to the era he was in? I don't know, and neither does anyone else. IMHO, Art was not as hyped even relative to the era. But that judgement is so subjective that it cannot possibly be scrutinized objectively. As such, it's not a worthwhile comparison.

EDIT II: As for Rod Gerald; Rod's last game at QB was the disastrous 1978 Sugar Bowl. Rod himself has claimed that he "blew" that game single handedly by doing so much cocaine during the game. By the accounts I've heard, Rod has comported himself admirably since then. But it is simply a fact that he was replaced by a very good freshman after a very bad performance.

EDIT III: I did some checking... OSU scored 6 points in The Game and 6 points in the bowl; a total of 12 points in Rod's last two games as OSU QB. His story is really a cautionary tale about the dangers of addictive drugs - but it has been all but lost to history because of the cautionary tale that is the life of the man who replaced him.

Thanks for the correction - I knew Greene (my bad on the intial spelling) was a stud - didn't know he won the MVP of the Big10 though - very cool.

According to that article, Antonio is likely headed to Southern Georgia and in doing so will be reunited with his former high school coach, Rance Gillespie.

I have to disagree with you. I remember the recruitment of Art very well. There was a huge amount of publicity in Ohio, but national recruiting was nowhere near the phenomena it is now. Nevertheless, Art got an enormous amount of publicity long before he replaced Rod Gerald. There was a huge amount of speculation in the media as to which player would start - Rod or Art - and there was a tremendous roar from the crowd as both players ran onto the field to start the game when OSU played Penn State in the opener. Art and OSU played terribly in a lopsided loss to PSU. Although I would have no way of finding it now, there was much written in the years afterward that in order to get Art to come to OSU, Woody had to promise him that he would start that first year and that Woody would change his offense to incorporate a more modern passing attack. There was also talk that Rod was switched to wide-out because it was his only chance of making it in the pros. In any case, it is not clear that Art beat out Rod on merit alone, and given the very mediocre year the Bucks had in 1978, it is not clear that Art as a freshman was better than Rod would have been as a senior.

However, Art's experience as a freshman undoubtedly helped him lead the Bucks to the brink of the national championship the next year, losing only the Rose Bowl to USC by one point. Unfortunately, Woody was no longer the coach, because Art's last second interception the year before cost the Buckeyes a bowl win and started the sequence of events that led to Woody being fired.

Report: Henton To Pursue Transfer To Georgia Southern........

Henton was/is a reall trooper. As has been said, wrong time for him to be at tOSU. GSU will be a good fit for him athletically and personally, I would imagine. He will be a state hero. If he transfers back up to D1, I would look for him to pop up at Georgia Tech to play in Paul Johnson offense.

I must say that I'm sad to hear Henton is leaving. Probably the right move for his future, but from the clips I saw of him, he just looked like the type of player that could really be special. Luckily for us, but unfortunately for Henton, we have a kid in the wings who may be even more special.
