ps. There was a time when a certain avid Buckeye fan with his own website felt that Jamario O'Neal compared favorably to Hiley.

i hate some things about talking on the internet. it is tough to determine the meaning or tone behind words sometimes....
if that was for me, let me clarify my previous statement.
i don't think bad of hiley at all. far from it.
he is a great athlete no doubt. very exciting with the ball in his hands.
fact remains though that he wasn't one of the best two or three corners on gleville that year. i know that is where he was projected and listed, and he could probably be a really good corner in college too given the chance. but that year he didn't get the job for on field issues. he was recruited for his potential and i hope he lives up to it for coach tressel still. i don't know the circumstances of him leaving osu, but i would welcome him back if there was nothing more than academics no doubt. we don't recruit many athletes like that.
jamario is thicker than hiley with similar athleticism. despite all his obvious skills, he played a minor roll on glenville this year on offense. the better prospect for college isn't always the best player for your team in high school.

It was a light-hearted jab at you, VG. Sometimes you gotta see if people are paying attention.
If I really wanted to [censored] you off, I would have written something along the lines of...Duane Long projected Hiley to be a starter at CB for the Buckeyes by his sophomore year, and we all know that Biatchabutukah rides the coat-tails of Long's recruiting evaluations.

Coach Ginn says he has not heard from Hiley. To me, that is not a good sign. TG seems to be the kind of guy that stays involved with his kid's lives. If Hiley is avoiding him Hiley is probably not proud of his status.

"If I would have stayed there might not be room for little Ted."
Not sure I agree with that one!!
Here's hoping he gets his life in order.

Weird thing for me is that I ran into the three of them (Hiley, Clarett, & Cotton) in the Stadium on the Field opening game in 2003 before Reecie appeared on ESPN Gameday and briefly talked to them (mostly MoC), wishing them luck and speed to get (back) on the field.
I guess none of them listened.
But I too wish Darius the best, and hope he gets one more chance to show his abilities on the football field, but more importantly that he makes an honest / decent life for himself and his family, regardless of his football future.

Here is what most people do not understand about these kids...
Quote:
|
"I hate the things have happened in his life," Ginn Jr. said. "I look at Glenville as this - you're either going to be an athlete or a straight-A student or you're going to be on the street. That's just how Glenville is."
|
That is not a quote for show or a plea for sympathy, it is what is drilled into the brains of at-risk kids from the time they take their first steps. Survival...not enhancement.
That is forgotten way too often by folks who only care about the stats these kids can produce.
Off my soapbox now...

You are quite right. A huge part of the problem w/ these kind of kids is that the ONLY place they see any kind of discipline and/or work ethic enforced is on the athletic field, by their coaches. It really is sports or slangin' rocks.
A kid from a suburban/rural school decides college isn't in the cards-they know enough to go work at AutoZone or Starbucks or BW3's-not a great job, but making enough to get by. Kids from places like Glenville have a hard time understanding that the manager at McDonalds isn't "disrespectin'" by expecting you to make it to work on time, or to do what you are supposed at work.
Honestly, putting in 25 hours a week at UPS is probably benefitting Darieus more than anything else right now-he understands a little bit about working. I hope he can somehow get his degree from Ashland
