I say we rest his ankle against Kent St. We will have Saine back and he and M. Wells should be able to get the job done. We need Beanie healthy for the tougher part of the season.

that may be the case...Clarett dominated early on in 02 and then got worn down and hurt...this is the BigTen where backs are get dinged up all of the time...

maybe tress is thinking back...

or maybe he knows that he has 2 more backs that can produce, so that beanie doesnt need to get all of the 200 or more rushing yards that tressel wants every game....

He got injured early in the year and it was a nagging injury. It wasn't really an issue of getting worn down, IMO.

Fumble mars Wells' effort against Gophers

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

Wednesday, October 03, 2007
COLUMBUS ? Ohio State's Chris Wells usually makes defenders pay with his punishing style. And when his performance isn't up to his standards, he showed he can tee off on himself pretty well, too.
Wells was critical of his play against Minnesota last week, telling reporters he let the team down with a fumble on his final carry ? even though the outcome was already decided and he racked up his fourth straight 100-yard rushing day.

Ohio State Football
Wells learning to be as tough as Griffin

Thursday, October 4, 2007 3:51 AM
By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
BY THE NUMBERS

Suffering at halftime in the locker room, Ohio State running back Archie Griffin wondered whether he could go on.
He already was in searing pain from two hip pointers before a helmet nailed him on the thigh.
"It was one of those things, 'Can I do this?' " Griffin said.
It was Nov. 23, 1974, and the Buckeyes trailed Michigan 10-9 with a spot in the Rose Bowl on the line. Griffin dragged himself back onto the field and helped lead a third-quarter field-goal drive that gave the Buckeyes the winning margin, 12-10.
Griffin finished with 111 yards, his 22nd consecutive 100-yard game.
"I think a lot of it was pride and also wanting to be there for my teammates," Griffin said. "I wanted to do my part in that game, because I knew they were busting their tails."

Gotta be something more than a sprained ankle with Beanie. Summer, Fall and now it is mid October and he is still lame.

Probably won't be enough to get him completely healthy, but I hope they rest him next week. Mo and Saine will be plenty against Kent St.

Do they have a #28 Ankle Brace that I can buy to match my jersey? I need to get a trainers table to watch the 4th quarter from, just like my hero.

Quote:
Beanie not happy

Chris "Beanie" Wells limped off a couple of times because of his sore left ankle and was helped off a third time late in the third quarter. Still, with 85 yards on 18 carries, he said he wanted to return to action but was held out while Maurice Wells, Brandon Saine and Marcus Williams carried the load.
Asked if he was bummed, Beanie Wells said, "I am, because I wanted to go back into the game and help my team, but the coaches didn't let me."
Asked if he was happy with the result, he said, "We got a win, so I'm happy about that, but I'm not completely happy."
What would have made him completely happy?
"Me going back out there on the field," he said.
His string of 100 yards games ended at four.

Bucknuts made a good point on one of their peices about Beanie. He is much like Clarret in the way that when he's in there it seems like the offense is so much more affective. Beanie's healthy the last 4 weeks of the season in the toughest part of the schedule is a MUST. I have a solution and wanted to share it with you guys to see what you guys think.

KSU- HOLD Beanie out. Play MoW extensively and give Saine around 5-10 carries but not too much work (give him another week of light work).

MSU-HOLD Beanie out again. Give MoW around 20 carries and give Saine around 10-15 carries.

PSU- Give Beanie 10-15, Saine-15, Mow-10.

WISCONSIN- Play all three however you see fit.

I hate this play like a warrior bull [censored]. Sure it's football and you get bumps and bruises, but when you have talent like Beanie that impacts you so greatly why risk possibly losing it for the hardest part of the schedule? We won't/don't need beanie the next two weeks so why play him? You know if he plays next week he'll come off the field get taped, and limp around when there is no need for him to be doing that against KENT STATE. Dress him, but don't play him unless our buckeyes are becoming an upset victim. He's just so important and if he injures that ankle further against teams like KSU/MSU then that's on the coaches and no one else. Beanie is going to want to play but he'll be happy when he's atleast in the game against michigan. If he gets the ball 20 times a game the next two weeks he won't be playing much at all by the end of hte year.

if we hold beanie out for 2 games and then only give him 10-15 carries against penn state, there's a very good chance we lose one of those games. if resting his ankle would help, I wouldn't mind him sitting out next week....but that's it.

does rest help an ankle like that or is it just something he's going to have to deal with, rest or not?

I mean you could make an issue and say Michigan State would need beanie as well, but I think MSU's confidence is surely shooken right now. It sucks for beanie because he's so big and strong that people are forced to grab those ankles of his jus to bring him down.

PSU deserves Beanie's full attention but I think the next two weeks don't at all. If they play him the next two weeks atleast play him less. The more he runs the ball the more tired the defense gets and the more tired they get the better chance they have to go for those ankles.

It hurt having Saine out but hopefully having him back can spell beanie a lot more.

does rest help an ankle like that or is it just something he's going to have to deal with, rest or not?

I say hold him out vs KSU, see how the offense looks, how he is feeling, then TBD vs Sparty. At first blush, I think we could beat MSU without him.

Again people are looking to draw parrallels to 2002 but there is a big difference imo. The OSU offense without Beanie is still balanced and realativly effective. Without MoC in 2002 we looked like a monkey [censored]ing a football. It was barely D1A worthy offense.

The program has more elements of the spread, a better overall depth of playmakers and a lot more experience running all of it. You still have M Wells and Saine as pure runners who are light years ahead of L Ross or M Hall and a short passing game that just wasn't present in '02. Also as much as I loved CK and still worry about TB...TB is a lot better passer than CK ever was.

The threat of M Wells/Saine in the backfield, our group of WR's and the emergence of Small can give us a very healthy look on O. With our D and considering the competition the rest of the way I say we could still do it without Beanie, it would just obviously be a lot harder.

IMO, the 2007 offense without Beanie would be significantly better than the 2002 edition was without MoC.
