Scary thing is that I don't think we have seen how good this kid is yet. I think he will really turn out next season and be in the running for the Heisman. His best game this year may be yet to come.

Wells: Ohio State?s warrior He may be bruised, but he batters the opposition Saturday, December 29, 2007 BY Todd Porter REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER COLUMBUS A few weeks before bruising Beanie took his first handoff as Ohio State?s starting tailback, Jim Tressel pulled him aside for a conversation. It was the kind of thing a head coach says to a key player before a season begins. Tressel, looking up and into Wells? eyes, challenged the 6-foot-1, 235-pound back to develop something. A warrior?s mentality. What Tressel meant by that was ignoring pain, ignoring bruises. There is, after all, a difference between being injured and being hurt. So Wells has played with a severe ankle injury all season that won?t get better without rest. Against Michigan, Wells ran over defenders. He ran past them. He cut around them. He did it with tears in his eyes. Cont... |

Got curious and did a little research: this year Chris Wells' 1,463 yards is the 7th best year running the football in the entire history of Ohio State football.
1. Eddie George ........... 1,927 2. Keith Byars ............. 1,764 3. Archie Griffin ........... 1,695 4. Archie Griffin ........... 1,577 5. Tim Spencer ........... 1,538 6. Pepe Pearson .......... 1,484 7. Chris Wells .............. 1,463 8. Archie Griffin ............ 1,450 9. Eddie George ............ 1,442 10. Raymont Harris ........ 1,344 So in the bowl game he only needs 22 yards to pass Pearson into 6th place, 76 yards to pass Spencer into 5th place, 115 yards to pass Archie into 4th place. All well within reach I'd say. He would need 233 yards to pass Archie into 3rd place, so that's pushing it a little bit, but still, having a realistic shot to move into 4th place all time at Ohio State as a sophomore is something special to say the least. For career totals, Beanie's two year total of 2,039 yards already puts him into 19th place on the all time list. A modest 1,000 yards next year would put him all the way up to 6th place on the career list while 1,514 yards would put him at 3rd behind only Eddie and Archie. Beanie has a real shot to become a true legend at Ohio State. ![]() (but for right now I'll just settle for him steamrolling some tigers) |

If his ankle heals over the off-season and he stays healthy next year, I'd say 1,500 yards is (W)ell(s) within his reach...

Dare I say that Eddie's record could be within his reach...

It's too bad that half the voters already have Tebow's name on their Heisman ballot for next year.

I agree, although you could use this phrase in almost any instance when talking about a record.

Nor would I, but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility. He'll likely end up around 1,600 yards this season, leaving him a little over 300 yards behind Eddie in a season that was hampered by ankle and wrist injuries. Plus as a Junior, he's likely only gonna get better.
If he stays healthy, and if JT gives him enough carries, I could see him giving it a run...pun intended. Hell, he had over 800 yards the last 5 games. |

I know that RBs love carrying the rock, but Beanie also seems to be the type that knows that winning is the most important thing. If he helps bring home crystal this year and helps tOSU have a successful 2008, he will go down as one of the best ever regardless of stats.
