Wells eventually limped back onto the field and further tests will likely be taken on the Buckeyes' star running back.
COLUMBUS -- It looked like it had all vanished in a misstep Saturday -- the Heisman, the USC game, a national title. Beanie Wells was writhing and the 105,011 visitors to a now-silent Ohio Stadium were worrying.

"Or a lot of bit," Tressel said.
Hours after Ohio State's season-opening 43-0 victory over Youngstown State, there were some firm answers about Wells' third-quarter injury to his right foot but several remaining questions.
X-rays were negative, so it's not a fracture. Kicker Ryan Pretorius said Wells told him it was his big toe, and an Ohio State staffer confirmed it was a problem at the front of his foot. In his only comment before leaving immediately after the game to meet with team doctors, Wells said through OSU spokesperson Shelly Poe, "I may have rolled it or planted wrong a play or two before. Something just didn't feel right. Then I think I felt a pop."
And if it really is just a toe? Last year, linebacker Ross Homan was forced to redshirt with a turf toe injury.
