ESPN has a piece up that criticizes OSU for having Beanie in at the point of the game that he was injured, then they defend Texas and USC's playing McCoy and Sanchez in similar games, only in the fourth quarter. Why? Florida Atlantic and Virginia were a bowl team and D-1 program.

I guess the scores were irrelevant, those games were NOT blowouts in the third quarter.

Get well, Beanie. I'm glad you're not bothered by the media as much as I am.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Coach Jim Tressel has some reassuring words for all those fretful Ohio State fans who have had trouble sleeping since tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells hit the deck with a right foot injury on Saturday. Tell them to worry about Gustav and Rita and those kinds of things," Tressel said Tuesday. "Beanie's going to be fine."

Wells was in obvious pain in the moments after he fell to the turf in the third quarter of Saturday's 43-0 victory over Youngstown State. He was almost dragging the foot, encased in an immobilizing boot, when he slowly returned to the sideline to watch the last few minutes of the blowout.

Yet Tressel didn't slam the door on the possibility that Wells might still play in Saturday's game against Ohio University. Wells' status will be evaluated later in the week, Tressel said. The Bobcats are a five-touchdown underdog against the Buckeyes, who dropped a spot to No. 3 in this week's AP Top 25.

"I have the third vote. The first vote is the young person. ... Then the medical people have a major vote," Tressel said. "How you practice has a little bit to do with it especially as you get into the back end of the week. But when you have a veteran who's had a lot of snaps and so forth, it's not quite as critical. I'll have that third and deciding vote, I guess."

If Beanie is indeed medically cleared Saturday, you better believe he is gonna be hounding JT for the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a handful of carries at all.

COLUMBUS -- You think you were nervous, Buckeyes fans? Paulette Wells spent the weekend "like a person jumping out of an airplane without a parachute," she said Tuesday night. "I was a nervous wreck." By the time she was admitting it, the mother of Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells was better. So was her son.
He walked down the hall at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Tuesday afternoon walking a bit gingerly, but waving his protective boot over his head at reporters.
With that, on a Tuesday that his coach and teammates spent talking about him, Wells said more than any of them.
You don't wave your boot if you're not going to play against USC. When asked if Wells would be ready in 10 days for the Trojans, the newly crowned No. 1 team in the nation, OSU coach Jim Tressel said, "Yeah."

COLUMBUS Dr. Jim Tressel has a diagnosis for Chris "Beanie" Wells' injury. Plantar fasciitis? Liz Franc? Tressel wouldn't even go as official as a stubbed toe.

Tressel played it locker-room straight Tuesday with Wells' right foot injury.

"His foot's hurting," Tressel said when asked for the medical term. "It used to be, 'My shoulder's hurting,' and now it became brachial plexus. I'm still back in the 'his foot hurts' era."

Perhaps Tressel doesn't really know or perhaps he would rather not give out medical reports for Ohio University or Southern Cal to digest. Either way, Tressel played it relatively coy with matters concerning Ohio's most famous right foot since Lou Groza.

Doing his best to ease the concern of Buckeye Nation, Tressel did provide some hope.

"Tell them to worry about (hurricanes) Gustav and Rita and those kinds of things," Tressel said. "Beanie's going to be fine."

Wells told the head coach he felt fine Tuesday morning.

"Every time (trainers) see him, he seems better," Tressel said.

Wells was injured during Ohio State's season-opening win against Youngstown State. Tressel said X-rays were negative. Wells has had an MRI since then, but Tressel would not reveal what the MRI indicated, saying it's not his specialty.

"I do not have that ability," Tressel said. "I wouldn't know an MRI if it was here."

COLUMBUS - As the shroud of mystery over the injury to Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells remained in place for a fourth straight day, Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel jokingly urged the faithful to concern themselves with other things, say, meteorological in nature. After Tressel was reminded over and over again during a news conference yesterday that Wells' status is a huge issue in Ohio, he suggested there were more pressing matters to deal with. "Tell them to worry more about Gustav and Rita, and those kinds of things," a smiling Tressel said, alluding first to the hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast on Monday. In the second reference he likely meant Hurricane Hanna, which was churning off the eastern tip of Cuba yesterday afternoon. Rita hit the Gulf Coast three years ago, inflicting more than $11 billion in damage. "Beanie's going to be fine," Tressel added. Fine enough to practice this week? Wells did not practice yesterday or Monday. Fine enough to play against Ohio University on Saturday? "We wouldn't play him if he doesn't get some work," Tressel said.

Mom's injury report: It's Wells' toe

Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells has a toe injury -- but not turf toe -- and has every intention of playing against Ohio University on Saturday. So says Wells' mother, Paulette. That's about the clearest report yet on Wells' status, which isn't saying much.
Coach Jim Tressel spent a good portion of his news conference playing rope-a-dope with the media, avoiding definitive answers and claiming he had no idea what Wells' injury was.
"His foot's hurting," Tressel said.
Wells has not been made available to reporters since suffering the injury Saturday against Youngstown State. It appeared serious at first, based on how quickly Wells dropped to the ground, cried out and grabbed his right foot.
He has not practiced the past two days, but "he's feeling good, he's not down," his mom said.
Yesterday, Wells emerged from a meeting room in the team's practice facility and walked down a hallway without a noticeable limp. He held his protective boot in his hands, waving at reporters and smiling.
Tressel called him doubtful for Saturday's game, which comes a week before a showdown at Southern California. He said every time Wells has seen the trainers the past few days, "he seems better."
