The Portland Trail Blazers faithful will still be holding their breath until he?s reached All-Star status. But the official return of Greg Oden is nearly here.
He chatted it up with Portland media at a two-day youth camp and tells them that he?s rearing to go this season. He?s also apparently lighter (down from 300 to 285), but stronger. Here?s a few more bars from the Portland Tribune story?
?I?m ready,? says Oden, who missed the entire 2007-08 season after undergoing microfracture knee surgery last September. ?But the good thing about last year, it got me to calm down. I?m not crazy.

Oden, who won?t turn 21 until January, looked in shape Sunday as he moved from station to station on the final day of the two-day ?Topps Basketball Camp, featuring Greg Oden,? at the Beaverton Hoop.
Five weeks of workouts with trainer Jay Jensen and strength and conditioning coach Bobby Medina have dropped Oden?s weight from about 300 to 285. Oden looked fit and quick as he moved about the six courts at The Hoop, playfully blocking shots in post-up drills, dunking and kibitzing with the 150 campers aged seven to 14.

The start of training camp for the Trail Blazers is less than two weeks away, and the 7-foot rookie is taking sort of a veteran?s approach to what will be his first camp.

Oden was the only thing cool about the USC/OSU game. I sat in section 4 and he walked those stairs to get to the field and I got to high five him. It was funny that all the SC fans were trying to get their picture with him and he kept getting in photos with buckeyes.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) ? Greg Oden can dunk, but he can't carry a tune.
The 7-foot Trail Blazer has gotten a lot of attention for his rendition of N'Sync's "It's Gonna Be Me." A video of the performance has made the rounds on the Internet.
This much is clear: There's no danger of Oden testing the "crossover" waters a la Kobe Bryant or Ron Artest. In fact, his singing could best be likened to Chewbaca's wails in "Star Wars."
But it was all in good fun.
A little background: The video was shot a couple of weeks ago during a charity event, Greg Oden's Summer Slam. Portland's center is involved with Oregon Mentors, a nonprofit organization that supports youth mentoring programs.
Oden grabbed the mic to showcase his karaoke skills.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ After a season of waiting for their No. 1 draft pick, the Portland Trail Blazers open preseason practice with Greg Oden eager to go.
"It's going to be amazing, and I'm going to be ready for it," said the 7-foot center, whose rookie season was over before it started when he had knee surgery last September.
All reports indicate Oden is ready for this season. He's been playing five-on-five for several weeks now and on Tuesday he'll raise the level as training camp opens.
The Blazers will likely still take it easy on Oden, limiting him to morning practices. He admits that although his repaired right knee feels fine, he's not quite in game shape yet.
Meanwhile, he's trying to keep a low profile ? even going so far as to turning down photo shoots for a couple of national magazines.
"I'm a guy who was hurt last year," he said. "There's guys who deserve it more than me."
Expectations are high all around for the upcoming season's Blazers, and not just because of Oden. The team appears to have more talent and depth than it's had for quite a few years.
Oden, All-Star guard Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge anchor the squad, made stronger with the addition of Spanish Olympian Rudy Fernandez and draft pick Jerryd Bayless, along with the return of role players like Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster and Channing Frye.
Roy averaged 19.1 points, 5.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds last season. Aldridge became a starter and showed probably the most dramatic improvement, averaging 17.8 points and 7.6 rebounds.
"For the past two seasons its been like, 'They're young, they're going to need some time,'" said Roy, pictured below. "It doesn't feel like that this season."

Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, who missed all of last season after knee surgery, rolled his ankle and missed the last 30 minutes of Portland's first practice yesterday, according to The Oregonian. "I was just not trying to put pressure on it until I could get in the pool and get some ice on it," Oden told the paper. "There was no reason to try and do something to make it worse, so I just stayed out (of drills) and rode the bike."

They came to see Greg Oden on Friday, the first chance to witness why so much of a fuss has been made over the Trail Blazers' physically imposing center.
But by the time the record crowd of 11,021 left the Rose Garden for the team's 11th annual free scrimmage, chances are they will remember more about the shooting and passing of Rudy Fernandez, the dominance of LaMarcus Aldridge and the hasn't-missed-a-step play of Brandon Roy.
Oden, on the other hand, was rather nondescript during his first game since undergoing knee surgery last September, which caused him to miss all of last season. Admitting he was playing with an abundance of nerves, Oden made 2 of 5 shots from the field and finished with five points, two rebounds and one block.

Coach Nate McMillan said the tentative plan for Tuesday's preseason opener against Sacramento is to play center Greg Oden about 20 minutes.
"It might be 15, depending on what the doctors say,'' McMillan said.
During Friday's intrasquad scrimmage, Oden said the plan was to play him 10 minutes in each half. No official minutes were kept, but it was probably close to 20 minutes. Whatever amount he played, Oden said he could have, and wanted to, go longer.

Now, less than a month away from Election Day, Oden is poised to use his national popularity and celebrity to help lift the Democratic presidential nominee to victory.
Oden plans to take part in a series of commercials today in support of Obama and said he would do "anything else they can come up with" in the coming weeks. Oden was asked last month to campaign for Obama in battleground state Ohio, where Oden went to college, but the 20-year-old had to decline because he was preparing for training camp.
"It's my first time voting and he's the guy I latched onto and I really like," Oden said of Obama. "He's just a guy that I like. Honestly, I feel that he can best run this country. And it's not about all his policies, because if you think about it, I would probably, with my tax bracket, need to vote Republican. But he's the guy I really like and I'm going to vote for."

Oden debuted to a standing ovation, as did the rest of the young Portland Trail Blazers, in a 110-81 exhibition victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. Oden finished with 13 points in just under 20 minutes.
Oden was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, but his rookie season was postponed when he needed microfracture on his right knee. He was held out all of last season.
One young fan held a sign that read: "Welcome to the show No. 52."
Except for two summer league games after he was drafted, Oden hasn't played much since he averaged 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in his lone season at Ohio State. He led the Buckeyes to the national championship game, scoring 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the loss to Florida.
