He ain't risking nothing by playing 6 games in that hypothetical scenario. I can't imagine what kind of competitive athlete wouldn't bind that sucker up and step out and see what's happening.
In fact, I don't know how much of a mind-meld is going on here, but I find it hard to believe that Oden could resist lacing 'em up for Carolina or the Gators. I'm with vr...the dude is going to play. It's a wrist, not a knee. You can stabilize the thing and limit your dexterity, but a 75% Greg Oden is a mighty fine thing to have. Of course, if he doesn't play early, I've got no problem with these guys cutting their teeth in those big games. This team is around a 4 or 5-seed anyway without Oden. |

x-rays suck, I had 3 before, I had an M.R.I and that was 3 months after I did it . You can't have rehab for it and thats what making me laugh so much. It heals itself and then you have to start doing your own toughing up the hand to make any contact with less pain. |

He will be back by the North Carolina game. I dont care what anyone says they have been taking leaps and bounds in medicine the past three years. Five years ago when someone tore there knee up it took them like 14 months to fully recover, now its like 8 or 9.

1. Do we know when he will be on the court? No 2. Do we have an idea of the timeframe? Yes, late November to early December, my hunch is he will be back before UNC. 3. Will he play this year? Absolutely So, its a wait and see approach, coach Matta was on 1460 yesterday and said that Greg has limited mobility in the wrist right now and they are being cautious. I think his absence early in the season will only help this team come tournament time. |

I'm with Akron on this one. Despite medical advances there are still athletes whose careers are ended by a variety of injuries. I am not an expert on this particular injury, but from what I can gather it is very difficult to project recovery. A recurrence would be career threatening. As a long time season ticket holder I am salivating to see this kid play. But if he were to come to me for advice I would tell him to sit and wait for the next draft.

I know an orthopaedic surgeon who is also team doctor for the local high school.
He says a wrist is pinned if there is the possibility of bones in the hand shifting out of alignment because of the ligament tear. The pins can often be inserted right through the skin ( no surgery). The ligament then repairs itself. A splint keeps everything in place. The pins are normally removed within 6 to 8 weeks. There is then some minor rehab to get the muscles back up to full strength. From this it sounds like GO should get rid of the pins right about now and rehab for just a few weeks. Obviously no one can quarantee any of this because he never saw the wrist, but I thought it might be of general interest. |

He's young and very resilient. If his nutrition is good and he keeps up with his conditioning we should see him before 2007. He is tough and very smart to go with his athleticism by everything I've read and heard so I should think he will be fine and play when he is ready. In the meantime we have some guys who can really play and our time without Greg will hopefully make the chemistry that much better.

Just wanted to share this ---
I heard Matta speaking at a basketball camp over the weekend, and he was an excellent speaker -- talked to kids mainly about attitude. he obviously talked about Greg and shared a few "stats": 7' tall --- we all know that 7'5" wingspan 36" VERTICAL JUMP!!! (I knew he was athletic, but not 36" -- that means his head would hit the rim from a flat-footed jump!) He then said the thing he liked best about Greg was this --- per Matta, "Greg Oden is the finest human being I have ever recruited, bar none." I personally know this to be true, but it was very nice/refreshing to hear Matta reinforce it. |

From Grad21's Dispatch quote on the Hunter thread:
"Matta said Oden, who had surgery in June to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, has begun therapy to increase the range of motion in the joint. The wrist was stabilized for the first eight weeks after surgery. It remains uncertain when Oden will be cleared for practice or games." I think this fits with the info in my post above. |

is this doctor friend familiar with Oden's case? If not, then I'm not sure why you're arguing.
