Greg Oden is less of a sure thing to leave Ohio State after one season than most athletes in his position. But expecting him to return is somewhere between overly hopeful and hopelessly naive.

Thursday, February 08, 2007 COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The first name that comes to mind when you see 18-year-old Ohio State freshman Greg Oden up close is Abe Lincoln.
It's not just that Oden looks old for his age. It's not just his scraggly beard, forehead wrinkles and sad, sleepy eyes that would make him look in place on the front of a penny. The comparison comes from an honesty, a grounded persona that made him a sports icon before anyone saw him block a layup all the way to Toledo.

Greg Oden, banging inside against Michigan State's Drew Naymick on Saturday, is getting mauled by opposing defenses, but he doesn't complain. 'It's OK. I can take it. Bring it on,' the Buckeyes freshman says. He leads the team in scoring and rebounding despite wearing a brace on his shooting wrist.

Oden loves school, although he had no clue what the prof in his History of Rock 'n' Roll was talking about that day. He once gave $20 to a campus volunteer after hearing his spiel on wind power, and he has signed a man's sneaker in a restaurant.
Oh, yes, he's getting death threats. What?
"A guy (from Indiana) told me to die because, 'You should've went to IU.' That's kind of sad," Oden said. "I just changed my number, because I used to get phone calls like that."

Thats a pretty good article on Oden. I laughed a couple times while reading it over. Gotta love Oden more as a person than as a basketball player. My only wish is that he would talk more often cause I love hearing everything he has to say.

Next June?s NBA draft has been dubbed the Greg Oden Sweepstakes.
Celtics [team stats] coach Doc Rivers has referred to the 19-year-old Ohio State freshman as ?Bill Russell.? Most league general managers and scouts, convinced that the era when a Tim Duncan or Ralph Sampson chose the warmth and enjoyment of college over a quick jump to the pros is over, already have Oden tabbed for a walk to the Madison Square Garden podium in a new big-and-tall suit four months hence.
Many point to the surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right (shooting) wrist as a determining factor. The injury, according to common wisdom, taught Oden that life is short in NBA terms, and that now is always the time.

I was wondering how you guys compare
Oden and Hibbert from Georgetown.

Defensively, I think are almost equal. Both are very good shot blockers with excellent timing and both of them are intimidators.

Offensively, I have not seen that much of Hibbert to make a fair comparison but I do think he has good post presence but I am not sure both the rest of his offensive repertoire.

Both of them are very athletic and can run the floor. I think that Oden is probably stronger than Hibbert.

I just don't understand why Hibbert has not gotten that much national press. I guess that I just don't see that big of a difference and was wondering what you guys thought.

I'm only going off the tournament game last year and some highlights but Hibbert does not move as well as Oden on defense and doesn't have the same game on the offensive side plus Oden's upside has no limit.

No matter the writer's assumption that Oden will depart at the end of this academic year, (which I didn't wish to hear again), I have to say that article from the Boston Herald is absolutely great.

Hibbert is soft and doesnt move anywhere near as well as Oden.

I don't even think that Hibbert is in Oden's league in terms of bigs...
