Let me guess...Skip Bayless claimed that Oden's foul was tantamount to punching the Xavier guy in the face and that Oden should be thrown out of the rest of the tournament?

i never really noticed the flop until anthony pointed it out. there's no doubt that he flopped. anthony also pointed out that oden first contacted the xavier player with his chest. two camera shots don't really show that. one, however, does.

The call was appropriate for that moment in the game in my opinion......besides.....any arguement from Xavier fans needs to be thought of as sour grapes considering they had a chance to end it at the foul line and didn't get it done......

Not only that, but any argument from Xavier fans also fails b/c the refs swallowed their whistles on both sides at the end of the game--they can't fault the refs for not calling Oden with an intentional foul at the end of the game when one second before they looked the other way when one Xavier guy kept Oden from getting the rebound by wrapping himself around Oden's arm and another Xavier guy tackled Lighty on the putback. You can't fault the refs for not making a call in one instance while being ok with their failing to make the call in another. All you can ask for in officiating is consistency, and that's what Xavier got at the end of the game.

Apparently Golden State Warriors Don Nelson has been fined $15,000 by the NBA, for comments made concerning Oden during an SI.com interview posted March 9th.

The Dispatch had a great picture of this- it's number 6 in the slide show. I thought it looked like he was going backwards for some reason on the rebound- he had a 200-pound-reason. |

IMO, from the first replay to present.. wasn't oden putting his arms on the ball? Then the other dude flopped backwards? Idk others take a look, our DVR is pooped out.
Skip Bayless is an asshole. I loved how he brought up the late flag in the NC game v. Cryami.. jeesh they say we don't let things go. Catching that segment on lunch justifyed why i don't watch espn anymore. |

You can always count on Bayless for never having anything positive to say about OSU, and when he's trashing OSU he always brings up the lack of a flag in the NC game. I mean, if he's talking about the lack of a flag in a football game that took place over four years ago in the context of a discussion pertaining to a basketball game that happened two days ago, you can only laugh.

The useless talking heads on Around the Horn talked about the foul today and all but Bob Ryan thought it should have been called an intentional foul. It's ironic that the guy who ACTUALLY played basketball (Greg Anthony) called it what it was, A FLOP. In hockey it would have been two minutes in the box. Another nice piece of "journalism" on ESPiN.

Morning Journal
Oden's humility rare for royalty Jason Lloyd 03/20/2007 TWO kings of their sport share the same college. Two athletes, both from Ohio State, have ascended to royalty. The Heisman Trophy will forever associate Troy Smith with greatness. Endorsement deals and paychecks that will exceed millions are ready for Greg Oden any day now. This is a golden age of athletics for Ohio State. It's not often one school can simultaneously boast the best player in both football and basketball. Smith's Heisman confirmed his status in December. Texas freshman Kevin Durant might be the choice for basketball's player of the year, yet he wasn't added to Team USA's roster straight out of high school. Oden was. Continued... |
