OSU offensive tackle Kirk Barton was being interviewed after the game when a question came to Barton from a reporter standing to his left. Barton looked over to the questioner and saw it was ESPN's Pat Forde. Barton took the opportunity to take a good-natured jibe at Forde.

"Man, I didn't know Pat Forde was going to be in the building. We must be moving on up in the world. I didn't see him against Kent State," said Barton.

The comment brought a chuckle, including one from Forde who took the comment very well, though he did turn a little red.

The price you pay for being a bandwagon jumper.

I had a humorous exchange with Kirk at work a couple days ago. I work at a music store in the area, and he came in to buy a CD. Luckily, I was behind the counter at the time.

He was buying the new Britney Spears album. He walked up, looked at me and said "This isn't for me, man. I bet you get that all the time."

I kind of laughed and told him that he was the first guy to tell me that.

Then he chuckled and told me "You gotta do something nice for someone else every once in a while."

So it doesn't sound so funny at the moment.. but it was at the time! Can't wait for his next quote. Haha

Kirk Barton is the anti-Tressel.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel strolls the sideline, necktie in a perfect knot, not a hair out of place and with a personality to match.

Barton, on the other hand, is a boisterous, hard-living offensive tackle. He's also one of the top-ranked Buckeyes' captains _ a decision Tressel signed off on. The two couldn't be more opposites.

"There's no clash, but there's a lot of difference," the senatorial Tressel said, comparing himself to his star offensive tackle. "The beauty of a team is that you have a million different personalities. If everyone was like me, we'd be in trouble. If everyone was like him (hesitating for effect) we'd be in trouble."

Barton Reflective Prior to Impending Senior Day

The Illinois game will be the final game of the season in Ohio Stadium for the 2007 Buckeyes and the final game in the Stadium in the careers of the seniors on the team. It's an emotional, big day for those seniors. It's also an emotionally charged day for the underclassmen on the team.

"We feel a responsibility to send the seniors out on a good note," said OSU linebacker Austin Spitler.

"They've been here, they've paid their dues, they've worked hard, they've taught us, they've led us, and we just feel like we have give all of our effort, give everything we have to send them out on the right note," Spitler said.

Columbus- When it comes to Michigan, Ohio State senior captain Kirk Barton has proven he knows how to enjoy a victory, and now he's eager to show he can lead a rebound.
After Saturday's 28-21 loss to Illinois, the Buckeyes' right tackle skipped his postgame meal with his family for the first time in his career to head to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and start watching video of Michigan. He took in the Oregon game, some of the Penn State and all the clips of Michigan's various blitz schemes in a one-man, three-hour session that lasted until 11 p.m.
"My family didn't have anything to do with it, I'm just not a good guy to be around after we lose like that," Barton said. "I didn't really invite anyone else to come in. I was just sitting there by myself, breaking stuff down."

Coming off a loss, Barton, Buckeyes need victory over Michigan

COLUMBUS: Kirk Barton, Ohio State's starting right tackle, doesn't chat with the media as much as he holds court.

On the Monday afternoon of Michigan week, Barton (Perry High School) did his thing for about an hour, informing and entertaining. He's the one everyone goes to for a quote, but sometimes what gets lost in the translation is the intensity of Barton, a fifth-year senior, who is one of the captains of the OSU offense.

Such was the case after the game Saturday against Illinois. Barton, wearing a recognizable scowl, was willing to shoulder the blame for the loss that halted a potential national champion
ship march.

''I mean, obviously it being Senior Day, you kind of feel like a bit of a failure if you can't get a win on Senior Day,'' he said. ''It takes a little bit away from your captaincy if you can't lead your team the way you need to.''

According to teammate Brian Hartline, there was little need for Barton to feel that way because he has been a good leader.

''As soon as he was a captain, you look back and know why he was doing it,'' Hartline said. ''He has calmed down, he makes great points, he's leading us. It's not all about just talking. He has been playing well, so you can't ask much more than what Kirk has been doing.''

Barton's intensity comes from the seminal moment in his life: the death of his father, Kirk Sr., from cancer when Kirk was 12, said Brigette Barton, a mother who chuckled when asked if her son always has been so focused.

''Yes, always. I know when he first came up here to Ohio after his dad passed away, he said: 'Mom, you won't have to worry, I'll get a scholarship.' He just tried real hard. I didn't think he'd do it,'' she said. ''When you're a parent, you don't know what your children are capable of. You believe them and everything.

''I think it was just because he was so upset and angry about his dad passing. I think it was just good he went and focused on something, and (football) is what he chose.''

After his father died, Barton returned to Northeast Ohio from Florida with his mother and younger sister, Kasey, who attends OSU on an academic scholarship. Perhaps Barton chose football to honor his father, who played at Ohio University.
