DB Eugene Clifford - transfer to Tenn. St. (official thread)

After watching the film, I think an argument could be made that he is the top player in the state.

There are a few clips of him at wideout. It seems like they would just chuck it up and let him go get it or he would get it on a short bubble. He was also good at going up and bringing down ints. He reminds me of a certain reciever from a certain school that was a rookie wr for the Browns last year.

After watching the video I was wondering what people thought about him ending up at wr. He is very good with the ball and showed good hands. He looks like a stud either way.

I was very impressed with his film. He could be a finese type safety or a very good WR. I think it will depend on who else we bring in where he will play.

He certainly brought the wood a few plays. He looks like he has good size and can break tackles regularly. He also does a great job reacting on the football and plucking it out of the air for the pick.

I've seen Eugene play on a number of occasions, and he is far from a "finese" safety. Granted, he isn't a Sean Taylor-type hitter, but he's not afraid to come up and hit someone. I do agree he'll be a free safety, though. Physically, he'll look like Nate Salley, but won't miss as many tackles, and will actually be able to play the ball in the air...that is, if he doesn't end up at WR.

I think the odds of him playing WR are better then you think.

Seriously, I have PM'd several posters who have asked about Eugene and I have told them that I would not be surprised in the least if OSU offers him at WR. It may be is best position and OSU will have a need next year at the position.

I wish I could shed some light on Eugene, but he has proven ellusive off the field as he is on it. I do not believe Eugene grew up a huge Buckeye fan, but like my best friend told me when I went to my first ever OSU game back in the mid 80's: Once you go to an OSU game, you are a fan for life! His comments sound like he had a great time and that is a very good thing.

I said on the Tyler Moeller thread last year that I thought Eugene was the best junior in Ohio and should have been a top 100 player...and I stand by that. He's not only gifted with good football sense, but he has every ounce of talent you could ever wish for in a football player...and this was quite clear when he started as a Sophomore.

I promise to keep you all posted with updates as they come in...I just don't have any...


(but don't be surprised if Eugene, if he comes to OSU, is a WR)

Like H&G said he could end up a reciever and the safety talk might be a moot point, but what I meant by finese was not that he won't make the hit,
but I meant it as he will be more the free safety(more of the cover guy) he wont be the one they are bringing on the blitz and things of that nature.

Wow definetly a top 3 player in the state. IMO it's Martin with Clifford right behind him and Torrence third. Anyways I think he is equally impressive at safety as he is at WR. He has ideal size for either position.

The best film I have seen on a player in 3 years outside of Ted Ginn and Chris Wells, and they were the top players in their respective classes, so Clifford defininately has a chance to be the best player in the state.
He is a sick athlete, I definately would hate to see him as a weasel.

H&G, just what I wanted to hear. We have a need for WR and there seems to be a surplus of db prospects. I would not mind one bit if Clifford and Torrence were brought in as WRs. That would be a killer duo. Clifford shows great hands on the interceptions where he snags them going up in the air and especially when he is coming hard back to the ball.

I guess we will have to wait and see.
