WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Someone mentioned in the gameday thread that his returning punts is dangerous because of the possibility of injury.

The same was said last year about about MJ but he provided a spark when the team needed it with a return for a TD.... Holmes can do the same. He needs to be on the field... period. Teddy will get his shot soon enough.

I really thought we'd be seeing Ginn returning some kicks.

my initial thought when santonio came back and fielded a punt was 'why not put ginn out there'

then i realized in a game this close....we dont need a freshman back there making his first punt return in college. we gotta get teddy in there eventually because he HAS to be our future at KR/PR....but for now either holmes or mo hall should be back there.

24/467 and 7TD's in 4 freakin games!!!

Holmes and Zwick are on pace for some ridiculous offensive numbers this year, once they cut out the TO's the sky's the limit.

Santonio Holmes is a star. Not will be. Not could be. Nope, is. As in, the guy is a genuine difference maker and there aren't many of them in college football.


We must admit, we outsmarted ourselves when we left the Ohio State wideout off the preseason Hot 100 list. The thinking (or over-thinking in this case): Without Mike Jenkins around, defenses will focus all their efforts on locking up the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder. Well, if you watched the Buckeyes game against Marshall (10 catches for 218 yards, 2 TDs), you found out what many OSU people already knew, that containing Santonio Holmes just isn't that easy.

Santonio Holmes leads OSU's WRs in catches, yards and TDs.
"'Tone is just smooth as silk," says Buckeye assistant coach Mark Snyder who recruited Holmes to Columbus.

Smooth is the perfect way to describe Holmes. He gets in and out of his cuts well, has wonderful body control and he has that one special quality all the great receivers have to have -- ball skills. He knows how to maneuver in traffic and make plays.

The Buckeyes are fortunate to have him. A Belle Glade, Fla., native, Holmes was interested in Miami, but the 'Canes seemed to be more smitten back then with Sinorice Moss and Darnell Jenkins so the Buckeyes got their man. While Moss had a huge game against FSU and Jenkins looks like he's ready to break through, Holmes is pushing Taylor Stubblefield (Purdue) and Michigan's Jason Avant and Braylon Edwards for the title of Best WR in the Big Ten.

"He's special," says OSU coach Jim Tressel. "He's not similar to Michael Jenkins, although he make plays like him. Some of the old timers here might compare him to Terry Glenn or Paul Warfield." Heady stuff right there.

Holmes is just one of a host of guys who has already emerged to fill a huge void and it's guys like him, the "step-up" guys, who enable great programs to reload not rebuild.

I like Holmes and love the fact we recruited him to OSU. He is not overly big and does not have blazing speed but he is flat out a playmaker...

yeah....he is the fastest player on the field when the pads are on....thats the only speed that matters...

Yep, he's a phenom. And when Ginn Jr. get's used to the college game, and taps into his potential, we'll have two phenom's at WR. As the season progresses (barring injury) our passing game could be pretty devestating by the time we reach Purdue and scUM.

Those two teams have some pretty good WR's as well. It will be interesting to see how Santonio and Ted Jr. measure up.

We'd better enjoy this year, because with his already being a father of two and with his family down in Florida (poor mother, etc.), he's gone after this year.

Some of the old timers here might compare him to Terry Glenn or Paul Warfield.

Terry Glenn made some amazing circus catches across the middle, but Santonio runs perfect deep routes and IMHO is a better receiver now than Glenn was.

There's no pushing of Stubblefield, Avant and Edwards......He already is the best WR in the Big Ten. No doubt about it.

Let's see who gets drafted where out of those four WR's.
