I didn't say that he's decommiting. I just said that it seems like OSU commits always seem to be wavering. I understand that we follow OSU more closely than most, and I understand that this happens at other schools (lots of times in our favor). I just hate to see a 5* lineman re thinking his commit because OSU just can't afford to lose a lineman of Boone's caliber.

For the record, I'm over it. I think he is a Buckeye when all is said and done.

All-American Alex Boone was looking around after giving Ohio State his verbal commitment. That experiment is over.

Alex Boone, a 6-foot-8, 300-pound offensive lineman from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed’s is one of the top prospects in the nation regardless of position.

Boone was hands down the best offensive lineman at the Michigan Nike Camp a year ago as a 15-year old sophomore and Alex dominated this year at the Ohio State Nike Camp.

Boone and Illinois offensive lineman Dan Doering are battling for the #1 spot in the Midwest “Hot 100”.

Boone gave Ohio State his verbal commitment as a junior but he may have cracked the door a little to look around.

“My mom wanted me to look around,” said Boone. “She wanted me to make sure that I was making the right decision.

“I did look around for a while but I didn’t like it. It got real boring after a while. I knew I wanted to go to Ohio State so I didn’t want to look around anymore.”

Why did Boone pick the Bucks?

“First, I’ve always been a big Ohio State fan. Secondly, when I got the official scholarship offer from Coach (Jim) Tressel himself, I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

“I can’t say enough about coach Tressel and coach (Jim) Bollman, I love those guys. I’m looking forward to playing for Ohio State.”

Boone helped lead St. Ed’s to a state championship in 2003. Look for Boone to be a participant in the All-American Bowl in January.

That certainly is GREAT news. I don't mind saying that I was a little nervous after hearing last weeks comments from his coach.

Brutus1- IMO it is a long shot but he will be visiting in the next few days plus his cousin goes to tOSU.

The things working against us include Alex Boone and the fact that others (Iowa, scUM, USC) seemed to have gotten a head start on us. He has been to Iowa something like 5 times already.

But he wants to play early and even with Boone he should be able to achieve that with tOSU.

With Boone and Cordle, the Buckeyes can be selective with who they offer next on the O line. Having those two, along with Skinner, Person, Rehring, and Mitchum from last years class bodes very well for the Buckeyes future on the line. Plus, just about every lineman from this year will be back next year. The competition along the O line is going to be fierce to say the least!!

I'm excited he is now solid. He needs to work on recruiting now. We need a strong leader for this class.

IMO, getting these guys that win games in the trenches should be our first priority. It's good to hear he's once again a strong commit.
What do you think guys? Is this kid good enough to come in and start as a true freshman?

Sims will be a senior when Boone is a freshman. Boone is probably good enough but if he's going to play left tackle I think he sits until Robbie graduates. Maybe he's good enough to allow Sims to move to RT? Finally we will have some depth up front.

I don't see him starting as a freshman, but it would be nice to find a capable LT than can give Sims a breather. I wouldn't be surprised to see Boone rotate in and out like Douglas and Sims did in 02. Boone would then have everything he needs to start at LT in his sophomore year.

I really think solidifying the OL is our one key to success in the near future. Getting Boone and Cordle early is a huge start to this year's class.

That really is great news. When I saw that he was looking around, I was thinking "here we go again". Glad that's over.

I would imagine that a switch from the left side to the right side is much easier than going from the right to the left. I would say a move of Sims is likely if Boone is as advertised. From everything I've ever read about this kid he sounds like he's not much below O.Pace when he came out of high school.
When OP came in as a freshman I thought he was immediatly the best offensive lineman at OSU.
A kid that dominates the Nike camp in Michigan as a 15 year old has to be something pretty special.

Absolutely! He's not quite Orlando Pace, but he's definitely good enough to start, even at left tackle. He's a far better athlete than Sims, who could move to RT or guard.

You here this every year this freshman or that freshmen is going to start. It never happens, the transition is usally too much. They just don"t have the physical tools as a freshmen. The speed alone at the Big Ten level is usally to much to overcome.
