Yeah, I guess that sounds better than rebuilding, but still I think you get the point. We are still going to be pretty good and we are even having to fill a lot of spots on offense, although it shouldn't be too hard because we have a lot of tremendous talent, so I guess it is a reload.

I agree, as far as "rebuilding" years go for ohio state, this is one

Rebuilding? No way. You are not rebuilding when you have a great defense. When you are privileged to have the defense that we have, you go for national championships. Sure offense will be shaky, and it will not be as sexy as our offense this year. But like UF, our offense has some young speedsters (Saine, Small) and plenty of seasoned veterans (Hartline, Roboskie). And we have something that UF never had, which is a great back. If our QB plays decent and does not turn the ball over, we will be very hard to beat.

Exactly why Mililani corrected me, our offense is in a partial rebuilding stage, but we are technically just reloading like Mililani pointed out. We have tons of talent and depth on offense, just need to get some experience. I know our defense is going to be outstanding, I am just hoping that we can step it up offensively.

My initial thoughts when Carpenter went down against TSUN was that I didn't see JL in on any tackles for that game OR the ND blowout. I think he did register one tackle in there, but I sure didn't see it. So, coming into last year, I wondered why so many said that he filled in so capably and would definitely make an impact.

But, as usual, I was wrong and James was strong all year long. (I think Dr Suess wrote that last bit)

Anyway, while we all expect big things from James this year, one thing I'd like to see our LB crew improve upon is run stop. We were fairly surehanded in tackling once we hit the ball carrier last year, but I'd like to see us meet the carrier at the LOS more often this year. I suspect we'll need more run support from the LBs this year until the new interior DL gels.

He got a tackle against Michigan right after Musberger (or maybe it was Danielson) said something about Laurinaitis. He pointed him out, and then JL got in on the play and made the tackle. That might have been his only tackle of the day.

I don't know how he did agaisnt Notre Dame.

Of course, that year, Ohio State played a lot of nickle defense, with Carpenter playing DE in that case. Laurinaitis may not have taken Carpenter's role as DE when he was in there.

Curtis Terry was a beast in that regard last year.

lil animal played very well in the scum game. the only reason you didn't hear his name called on takles is because schlegs was beating him to the punch. but everytime hart ran up the middle or to his side it was schlegs hitting him followed quickly by jl. he was all over the field against the run in that game. he just wasn't the first guy there, and when he was the annoucers gave credit to someone else.

the nd game you didn't hear much from him because of the offense nd runs. you also didn't hear much from schlegs. the only time you heard about hawk was off blitzes for the most part. there were a couple of nondraw running plays. but not many.
