Who's tougher than Laurinaitis? His brother By Tom Archdeacon Staff Writer Monday, January 07, 2008 James Laurinaitis didn't mince words: "I'm being dead serious. He's a tough guy. He's strong as heck. I wouldn't like getting around him in some situations. When he's serious and wants to throw you down, he's gonna do it, period." So, as the Ohio State linebacker stood there on the Superdome field a couple of days ago ? the same field on which his Buckeyes meet Louisiana State tonight in the Bowl Championship Series title game ? which LSU Tiger was he talking about? Massive Herman Johnson, the 6-foot-7, 351-pound guard? Ciron Black, the 6-5, 320-pound offensive tackle? Or was he assessing his defensive counterpart, LSU tackle Glenn Dorsey, winner of both the Lombardi and Outland trophies? Nope, nope and nope. He was talking about his brother, Joe, a policeman in a small town just outside of Dayton and a security cop at a hospital in the city. Cont... |

What did everyone think of Laurinaitis' performance last night? He sure racked up the tackles (around 20?) but to me it seemed as if a lot of them were way after the LOS. Rather quiet for me, but what does everyone think? Don't flame me because I said James had a mediocre game, if you disagree tell me why.

He was around the ball a lot but most of the time it was atleast four or five yards down field. JL didn't make a single play that stands out to me from last night. To be honest when I saw he had as many tackles as he did , I was pretty surprised.
Other than Jenkins pick there really aren't any plays that standout from last night from the D. |

The clash at the goalline was a classic, but indicative of the game, a very short distance to paydirt. LSU did not run away from OSU last night, other than the TE. They punched them methodically, setting up constnat 3rd & shorts... which are almost automatic for backs like Hester. In contrast, OSU very rarely had any less than 5 on 3rd down, which took the ball out of Wells' hands.

It just felt as though, if first down wasn't productive, it was time to chuck the ball. The only time Beanie got back to back touches was when his first run set up 2 & short. |

I agree with what a lot of you guys are saying. JL had a pretty good game, anytime you get 18 tackles that is pretty good. James did a great job of doing what he was capable of doing. The d-line didn't help him out at all, it seemed almost all game the d-line was getting blown off the ball, which is the main reason he was forced to make plays downfield. I didn't see anything outstanding for him, but most great linebackers have great defensive lines. Personally I think Laurinaitis is ready for the NFL, he is the best linebacker overall. But, I do not think he thinks he is ready after the last game. He is a player that always wants to get better and is never satisfied. I think James will be back next year to have another shot at the title. But, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I thought Grant seemed to make bigger plays. I was stunned when I saw JL's final numbers.

James seemed out of place on a couple of plays, particularly the touchdown pass to the tight end. He was completely focused on that bunch formation.
He may be there physically, but one more year would prepare him better mentally. |
