You're right, his bio is fascinating. Here's the trivia question:

Name the only person to have played on National Championship teams for both Ohio State and Michigan.

Can't be more than one.

Certainly a unique individual. Sounds also like a person of high character, integrity, and wisdom. RIP.

I can't believe there is even 1. How can someone play for OSU and then Michigan? I can't fathom that.

WWII had strange impacts on the careers of many of that generation. Quoting from the obituary:

"He matriculated to Ohio State University, where he lettered in basketball and football as a sophomore in 1942, with the Buckeyes winning the national title under Coach Paul Brown.

"His collegiate career was interrupted by World War II and he served in the Army from 1943-46. . . . Upon his discharge, White enrolled at the University of Michigan and earned letters in 1946 and '47, playing on the Wolverines' national title team."

Aside from winning two national titles (one at OSU, and one at UM), he lettered in basketball and football at OSU, football at UM, played football in the Army, and still wound up getting drafted by the Detroit Lions and Brooklyn Dodgers, despite nowhere in the bio does it state that he even played collegiate baseball.

and then to coach for a PSU NC team... unless i misread - but it seems he was involved with with NC teams for all three teams?

Former Buckeye national champion JT White passed away recently. He was a member of Paul Brown's 1942 national championship team. Yes, he went to Michigan when he returned from the War (he won a title there as well, interestingly enough), and yes he was a long-time coach at Penn State, but he was part of a championship team at our University, and he served his country admirably in the Great War, so to me, he is always, always a Buckeye, and we should be proud of him. Rest in peace, Mr. White.

J.T. White had the distinction of playing on national-championship teams at both Ohio State and Michigan. White played end on the Buckeyes' first national championship squad of 1942. That season he played against his brother, Paul, during OSU's 21-7 victory over Michigan.

After returning from military service following World War II, J.T. White finished his education at Michigan and was the starting center for the national champions of 1947. He later served as an assistant coach at Penn State for many seasons under head coaches Rip Engle and Joe Paterno.
