The Bucks are probably going to lose Redd after the season anyway so they aren't going to get too much for him in a trade. Whoever trades for him still has to sign him.

That's the kicker.... who wants to pay Redd max money? Not me...I'm sure not the Bucks either...

but somebody will.....and if you trade for him and then don't sign him... you look like a complete tool.

Anybody who wants to meet Redd, just stop in at Bob Evans in Lewis Center on 23, Monday thru Friday in the mornings during the off-season. My girlfriend works there and has got about 5 autographs so far.

Redd would be a perfect fit for the Cavs in so many ways. First of all, the primary areas that Cleveland need to improve in are outside shooting and defense. Redd would address that perfectly because Lebron and McInnis would get the penetration and both are great passers that can kick it out to Michael as the defense clamped down.

I agree he would plahy a Pippen role his whole life, but he seems like the guy that could do it without ego problems. One thing is for sure...it makes Cleveland a title contender for years to come. If we can't pull off Redd, we need a great outside shooter. I'd just prefer it to be Redd because of his ties to central Ohio.

PG - McInnis
SG - Redd
SF - James
PF - Gooden
C - Z

I hope Redd is going to go to Cleveland, i dont think there is any Cavs fan that wouldn't. If he doesnt it would make some a little angry, but i dont think ot would be a terrible thing. There are many college player that can drill a 3 and not just JJ reddick. (I wish we could get him). But there are also going to be more free agents. What i am trying to get at is i really dont know the NBA players that well, who is next in line after Redd?

Charlotte, N.C. - Michael Redd will return to the Milwaukee Bucks' lineup tonight when the team gets back to business after the all-star break.
<!--End Sidebar--><!-- middle ad include -->
Redd missed the last three games with a sprained index finger on his left hand, but he went through a two-hour practice Monday, proving his readiness for the Bucks' road test against the Charlotte Bobcats.

But will the fifth-year pro still be wearing a Bucks uniform on Friday, the day after the National Basketball Association trading deadline?

That's the multimillion-dollar question facing Bucks general manager Larry Harris, who faces the unenviable choice of whether to trade his star shooting guard or to let the deadline slide and hope the Bucks can entice Redd into signing a long-term deal this summer.

Redd is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3 million this season, and he is sure to attract major offers as an unrestricted free agent after July 1. The new collective bargaining agreement could bring changes, but according to the way the rules are structured now, the Bucks can offer Redd an extra year on his new contract and higher pay raises than any other teams.

"There is a lot of interest in our players," Harris said Monday after returning to Milwaukee from Denver and the NBA's all-star weekend. "As far as Michael Redd is concerned, our intentions are the same, to re-sign him this summer."

But the rumor mill is churning at full speed this week, with a number of teams reported to have serious interest in obtaining Redd. Among the teams that might want to swing a deal for the former Ohio State star: Golden State, Portland, Minnesota, Cleveland and Memphis.

"There were a lot of conversations in Denver, but not a lot of serious dialogue," Harris said, referring to talks among league general managers.

With the league trade deadline approaching at 2 p.m. (Milwaukee time) Thursday, discussions are expected to heat up.

One possible piece to a trade involving Redd is forward Keith Van Horn, who has one year left on his contract at $15.7 million. If another team would offer a player with an expiring contract in the deal, the Bucks could clear significant room under the salary cap, enabling them to go after a talented free agent or two in the off-season.

One such trade scenario could involve Portland forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim (expiring $14.6 million deal), another Trail Blazers player and a draft pick going to the Bucks in exchange for Redd and Van Horn.

Golden State's Dale Davis ($10 million expiring contract), Mike Dunleavy Jr. ($3.5 million this year and $4.5 million next season) and draft picks also could be a package for Redd and Van Horn.

Both Portland and Golden State have first-round picks available for 2005.

Cleveland has not disguised its desire to team Redd with all-star LeBron James, but it seems unlikely the Bucks would want to trade Redd to a Central Division rival. The Cavaliers' best shot might be to wait until the summer and hope they can sign Redd as a free agent.

"Teams that need a shooting two-guard, why wouldn't they be looking for him?" Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "I'm sure there are some teams that would like to come in under the radar and make a solid offer."

Porter acknowledged that all the rumors might be a distraction this week as the Bucks try to begin a long-shot bid at an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

"When you have all the uncertainty, unfortunately, it's part of the game," Porter said. "As a player you just do the things you can control.

"Obviously, we don't want to lose Mike (Redd). He's very important to the organization going forward. It's a tough situation because Mike is a total free agent. If nothing happens and he walks, it would be a very difficult situation for our franchise."

Redd had played in 212 consecutive games with the Bucks before being forced to sit out the last three with the sprained finger on his shooting hand. The Bucks beat Atlanta by 30 points in the first game he missed, and lost road games to Detroit and New York to fall to a 20-30 record.

"We know it will be a difficult task to go 21-11 (to reach the .500 level)," Porter said. "Somehow, we need about 20 wins. Even if we can get to 40, I think we've got a good chance."

Mike wants to stay in MILWAUKEE!!! hooray!

Here's the deal: Redd wants to stay

It's the last chance for Bucks to unload star guard

Michael Redd has professed loyalty to the Milwaukee Bucks, saying he would like to play his entire career for the National Basketball Association franchise.

After the league trade deadline arrives at 2 p.m. today, at least the shooting guard will know whether he will be with the Bucks for the rest of the season.
All the public statements from Bucks management and Redd have pointed to him staying with the team, despite his looming status as an unrestricted free agent this summer. After July 1, Redd would be able to sign with any NBA team, and the Bucks would not be entitled to compensation.

Bucks general manager Larry Harris said earlier this week that the franchise remained committed to reaching a long-term contract with Redd, the team scoring leader who reached the All-Star Game last season. Redd is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3 million this season, and he is in line for a major pay raise in his next deal.

After the Bucks played one of their best games of the season in a 100-81 rout of the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday at the Bradley Center, Redd said for the umpteenth time that he thought he would stay in a Bucks uniform.

"I'm not worried, not worried at all," Redd said. "When I say that, I mean that. I believe I'll be here. I'll say it again; I want to come back in the off-season. Milwaukee has made it clear that they want me back, so I can rely on it."

Redd said he met last week with Harris to discuss plans for the future.

"We had an in-depth discussion, and we both expressed that we want to be with each other and make it a long-term type thing," Redd said.

"We knew coming into the season there were going to be rumors and the talk was going to come. But that doesn't change what we feel."

Philadelphia made a big trade with Sacramento on Wednesday to acquire Kings forward Chris Webber, and other deals could come in the hours before the deadline.

One team that might be willing to make a trade with the Bucks is Portland, which has three expiring contracts to dangle in front of other teams. Forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim ($14.6 million) and guards Damon Stoudamire ($12.5 million) and Nick Van Exel ($11.8 million) all could be shopped by the Trail Blazers.

Redd and Bucks forward Keith Van Horn have been mentioned in trade rumors involving Portland, with Milwaukee potentially getting Abdur-Rahim, a draft pick and a young prospect in return. Such a deal would clear salary cap room for the Bucks next season and could give it a pair of first-round draft picks.

It has become a common practice in NBA circles to trade for expiring contracts in order to clear salary cap space. That also has led to talk of a Van Horn-for-Glenn Robinson deal, with the Bucks trying to acquire the expiring $12.1 million contract of their former starting small forward, who has not played for Philadelphia.

The current NBA collective bargaining agreement expires on June 30, and certain changes regarding free-agent contracts could be included in any new deal.

On Wednesday, however, Redd was thinking more about the Bucks' back-to-back victories after the all-star break and their third-quarter blowout of the Nets, as they took control with a dunk fest at the end of a 30-point quarter.

Redd did an effective job defending Nets point guard Jason Kidd, the first time he has guarded Kidd. The Nets started a two point-guard lineup of Jacque Vaughn and Kidd, and Kidd was limited to 11 points and seven assists.

"That was a challenge for me tonight, to slow him down defensively," Redd said. "I really concentrated on that, and he wasn't a factor too much."

In 35 minutes against the Nets, Redd finished with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals

Michael Redd's most expensive purchase during the offseason wasn't for himself. The Milwaukee Bucks' All-Star guard signed the richest contract ever by a Wisconsin athletes this summer, one worth $90 million. But instead of going on an extravagant spending spree and treating himself to a new sports car, Redd bought something for his father, James: a church in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

Redd bought the church in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Redd estimates the Philadelphia Deliverance Church - which is non-denominational - can seat around 600 worshippers. "I believe in him,'' Redd said of his father, who is a pastor. "I believe in his ministry. He never asked me to do this. I just did it on my own. My father was so happy; he was blown away. And my mother (Haji) was so happy. That's what it's all about: Taking care of your parents.''

Gowin has scUM sympathies
No class act in my book

Redd imo has turned his back on "Ohio" fans twice by leaving Ostate early and by not coming back to play for the cavs. I was no longer a fan of Redd after he left early for the pros and it only turned me more against him when he did not come and play for the cavs. Redd forgets that he was not highly recruited at all out of high school and OB and the bucks gave him a chance to shine. Nice way to pay them back by bolting early. jmo

Get over it. You demean him for not being loyal to OSU (which I think is absolute crap), then you demean him for being loyal to the Bucks. The guy had a chance to make serious money and took it. And now that he has money, he is giving back to the community. Yeah, absolutely classless.
