A Blaze burns with desire

Quarterback Joe Germaine is not sure what happened to his NFL career.
A fourth-round pick of St. Louis in 1999, Germaine barely played in two years with the Rams. Stints with Kansas City, Cincinnati and San Diego came and went with barely a blip.
At least Germaine did not go home and sulk. He has put his passing skills to good use in the Arena Football League, first with the Arizona Rattlers, 2004-2005, and now the Utah Blaze.

Thanks for the article Grad. Joe always has been and always will be one of my favorite Buckeyes. One of the best, if not the best, pure passer to play for us.

Congrats to Joe for setting an AFL record with 5,005 passing yards.
His 107 passing TDs ended up second in the league this year.

BLAZE NOTES: Burley honored, Germaine snubbed by AFL

Utah Blaze quarterback Joe Germaine threw for an Arena Football League-record 5,005 yards in the regular season and recorded 107 touchdown passes, tied for second-most in league history.
But when the Arena Football League announced its All-Arena First and Second Teams on Thursday morning, the four-year veteran's name was nowhere to be found.
Naturally, Germaine was thrilled.
That's because Blaze receiver Siaha Burley, who also had a record-setting season with 166 receptions, 2,129 receiving yards and 49 touchdowns, made the First Team.
"I am happy Siaha made it," Germaine said. "That is four or five years in the making. I am really glad he made it."
But what about you, Joe? The snub cost Germaine some cash, because he has an undisclosed incentive in his contract that gives him a bonus (probably about $5,000) for making All-Arena. Burley has a similar deal.
"I am not disappointed I didn't make it," Germaine said. "There are so many quarterbacks that had great years this year."
Georgia's Chris Greisen, who threw an AFL-record 117 touchdown passes, was the First Team quarterback. Dallas' Clint Dolezel, who tied Germaine with 107, was the Second Team honoree.

AFL players to earn bragging rights based on outcome of BCS National Championship Game
01/04/08 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Quote:
Two veteran AFL players who first starred as Buckeyes are Utah Blaze QB JOE GERMAINE and New Orleans VooDoo QB STEVE BELLISARI. Germaine became the first quarterback in AFL history to pass for more than 5,000 yards in a single-season in 2007 and Bellisari earned the starting role for the VooDoo late last season.
"I'm very excited that Ohio State will be playing in the national title game again," said Germaine. "This just goes to show that year-in and year-out they are one of, if not the best, college football programs in the country."
Germaine's last game as a Buckeye was a memorable one as he led Ohio State to a 20-17 victory over Arizona State in the 1997 Rose Bowl, earning game MVP honors.
"Coach (Jim) Tressel has done a fantastic job of carrying on the rich tradition of Buckeye football and continues to raise the bar," he continued. "LSU will be a very tough matchup, coming from arguably the best all-around conference in the country, but I am honored to say that I am a Buckeye."

That wasn't Germaine's last game of his career. The Sugar Bowl against Texas A&M was.
