Great job, Antonio. He seems like he's always in on the action on special teams (made the "can't slip the first gunner" tackle on Turano's 71-yard bomb in the fourth quarter, and just missed making the tackle for a safety on a kickoff against Texas). He was also pretty impressive the few times he actually got to play DB in garbage time last year. He deserves the ship.
EDIT: By my count, that was the last available scholarship of our 85 total, so that is extra indicative of Antonio's contributions. Last edited by MililaniBuckeye; 03-01-2006 at 01:57 PM. |

Just a great story, and it gives all of the walk-ons on the team and any players thinking about walking on something to work really hard for. Congrats Antonio!

This kid was amazing covering kicks and punts last year.
Congratulations. Its always good to see a tough player like him stick around and get that scholarship. |

I've had a couple classes with Antonio. Very humble guy, too. I remember talking to him during class and mentioning how I saw his individual video on the big screen and he just got this huge smile on his face and then changed the subject. Great guy all around and well deserving of this. Congrats!

For those of you that arent sure who he is, he is the long haired guy that obliterates every kick returner

*Warning Beechcroft related post coming*
Antonio was on a academic scholie. He recieved that to OSU when he was a freshman. Here is where confusion comes in. I can't remember, but one or more posters here stated that once if a player recieves a academic or athletic scholie, it still counts against the 85 limit. So more on the total Mili said that that was the last one avail. Are you sure about that? I know, for a fact, 100% sure that he did indeed recieve a academic scholie to OSU. This came from my Head Coach at Beechcroft. He was speaking about the two players(Antonio and Sirjo) that are at OSU. He said Sirjo recieved a athletic and Antonio recieved academic. So with that being said, wouldn't that scholie have already counted towards the 85 limit? If so, there should be no change in the number. Sorry I was starting to ramble on. |

Maybe since he was already on a academic one, that Tressel figured he would award Antonio with a athletic scholie based on his play. |

If Antonio was on an academic scholarship, was it a full ride? If it wasn't, then "awarding" him an full athletic scholarship makes perfect sense.

I think that would get him a full ride(?) |
