Art Bellisari passes away at 66
My deepest sympathies go out to the Belisari family...
Longtime Boca High coach Bellisari passes away at 66 By Dave Heeren South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted March 7 2006 Boca Raton ยท He cherished his family and his work. On Friday, Art Bellisari worked and coached the varsity softball team at Boca Raton High School. Geoff McKee, the school's principal, saw him greet his 15-year-old granddaughter, Kylie, at the end of the day. "I saw [Kylie] coming," McKee said. "He just lit up and called to her. She ran full speed to him and gave him a big kiss. He spent his last day working and coaching and loving his kids." Less than 12 hours later, Bellisari, 66, died at his home in Boca Raton. Bellisari had six children, three by a former wife and three with his wife, Mary Beth, who was with him when he died, apparently of a heart attack, early Saturday. Art Bellisari coached football for about 20 years and softball for about 15 at Boca, and at one time or another coached all of his children. All of the children attended Boca Raton High School. All were athletes. All but Andy, the oldest, are now living in Ohio. The Bellisari connection with Boca Raton High School began in 1972 when Andy played football for a Bobcat team that had Mark Richt, the current University of Georgia football coach, as the quarterback. Brothers Andy, Greg and Steve Bellisari all played football for Ohio State University. Greg went on to play in the NFL. Steve is playing arena football in Kansas City, though he maintains a home in Columbus. The Bellisari girls also were athletes. Gina was a gymnast, Nettie a track and field standout and Amy an All-County softball player. Amy attended Barry University and is now a graduate assistant at Ohio University. "He loved coaching. He loved the kids," Mary Beth Bellisari said. "He had a heart condition, but he wasn't going to sit around doing nothing. I think Art made a difference in a lot of lives. He touched a lot of kids. He did a great job with his own kids and I know every kid he has ever coached will be saddened to lose a good friend in him." Visitation is today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Babione Funeral Home (East Chapel), 1100 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 370 SW Third St., Boca Raton.

A very good man who had an undoubted positive effect on many young people besides his own kids. Rest in peace knowing that the job was well done in this world, Mr Bellisari!

I knew that Steve and Greg played. I thought Art played at OSU too. I didn't know they had an older brother named Andy that played. I also know they have a sister that plays I think softball at Florida Atlantic.

No greater compliment can be said of somebody than to say that he loved his family completely and made an impact on so many peoples life. May his family find peace quickly. My prayers go out to all of them.

Sounds like a really great guy. I'm sure he'll be missed by many. My thoughts go out to the family. May he rest in peace.
