Browns center LeCharles Bentley will continue working out in Arizona "with the blessing of the Browns" despite the fact the team's off-season program began Monday in Berea.
"LeCharles will be staying in Arizona and continuing the program he's on out there," said his agent Jonathan Feinsod. "The Browns are fully on board with it."
Browns general manager Phil Savage did not immediately return an email, but coach Romeo Crennel said at the NFL Scouting Combine last month that he expects Bentley to participate in the organized team activities -- or voluntary spring practices -- that begin in May.
"LeCharles is doing phenomenal," said Feinsod. "I went to watch him work out in Arizona and he looks bionic. He'll come back and work with the Browns when he has to."
Bentley, 29, will continue his bid to return from a torn left patella tendon suffered in July of 2006. He also suffered a re-tear of the tendon and staph infection that required three additional surgeries. He attempted to come back last season, but remained on the physically unable to perform list for the entire year while he continued to strengthen the knee.
"Once the Browns see that LeCharles is LeCharles again, they'll be very pleased," said Feinsod. "He's fully committed to playing this season."

It seems a 1,000-to-1 long shot Gary Baxter and LeCharles Bentley can still be the Browns' "Killer Bs," but there's a chance they'll at least be on the 2008 training camp field.
So says General Manager Phil Savage.

Of Bentley, Savage said he expects "that at some point in May he'll be back with us and hopefully on the field."
Whereas Baxter is in Berea taking part in team offseason training, Bentley is in Arizona working on his own.
"He's got a trainer there he likes working with," Savage said of the former Pro Bowl center. "He feels like he's made a lot of progress.
"He's gonna check back with us probably every three to four weeks during the offseason and hopefully get to a point after the draft once the OTAs (organized team activities) start in mid-May where he can come back and begin to learn the offense.
"He was in a lot of our meetings last year during training camp and all, so he's not totally unfamiliar with the offensive system."

Center LeCharles Bentley continues to work out in Phoenix, but the Browns have signed two veteran free-agent offensive linemen, Rex Hadnot and Seth McKinney. Their presence seems to indicate the Browns are not expecting Bentley to return.

CANTON TWP. LeCharles Bentley must clear one more hurdle to suit up for spring practice this week.
Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel said the former Pro Bowl center was in New York to clarify an aspect of his recovery from an injury nightmare.
"Then he's gonna come here and let our guys look him over, and then he'll be available to go," Crennel said. "I talked to him about being here so that he can get started with us tomorrow. I don't know if that process will be completed by that time. He's supposed to call me back today."
The Browns are entering three weeks of what amounts to spring practice.
"(Bentley) feels good," Crennel said today at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. "He says he feels better than he's felt in a long time.
"He's excited about the possibilities."
Bentley was signed as the centerpiece of the Browns 2006 free agency class, but he blew out a patellar tendon early in training camp. He missed the entire 2006 and '07 seasons.

A former Pro Bowler and former Ohio State Buckeye, LeCharles Bentley signed a six-year deal with the Cleveland Browns in 2006, but during training camp in Berea on July 27 of that summer, Bentley tore left patella tendon during a routine drill and was placed in injured reserve two days later. The Cleveland native and standout at St. Ignatius dreams of playing with his hometown Browns, or even stepping on the field again, seemed unlikely after missing all of 2006 and 2007.
After multiple knee surgeries, things started to look up as Bentley made the announcement last summer that he was ready to go, and according to his surgeon, Bentley was deemed healthy. But again, he didn?t see the field and the Browns decided to sign the guy that took Bentley?s starting job, Hank Fraley, to a muti-year contract.
