Bo Pelini on Nebraska/Ohio State
Bo started off saying that playing at Ohio State was the time of his life and would do it all over again. And he would rather play than coach. The atmosphere at the shoe is always electric and would send chills to his spine every game when he came on the field.
But now many years latter he has said that Nebraska fans have to easily be the best fans in the US they are more passionate, know more about football, and the nicest fans in college football. Now for comparing the two programs he said if he could do it all over again he would choose to play for Nebraska because just the atmosphere in Lincoln during the off season is almost game time level in Columbus. And just walking out on the field for the first time as head coach during the spring game just about brought tears to his eyes seeing 80+ thousand fans sitting in the stands to watch him. Then he went on and on talking about the two and Nebraska will always be Nebraska and they are easily one of the best schools of all time. Also said Ohio State is well Ohio State but even if they win 100 straight NC's and Nebraska losses every game Ohio State will still not be on Nebraska level in the top programs of all time. And yes he did say the tradition at both schools was great and all of that but still kept leaning toward Nebraska as the better school of choice. And before he ended the speech in McCook Nebraska today he even stated that he felt that Tommy Frazier was robbed of the heisman and that Eddie George did no deserve it. |

What should we expect him to say? He's the coach of Nebraska, and he's got a lot to do to restore that program, despite whatever he says about where their standing is.
If he were the head coach at Ohio State, he likely wouldn't give a crap about Nebraska. If he were the head coach at Oklahoma, he'd be talking about how bad Nebraska stinks. It's the politics of college football. I don't know about any other Buckeye fans, but I don't feel any differently about Ohio State because of something Bo Pelini said. |

After having lived in Omaha for 5 years I would agree that the Husker fans are just as passionate as Buckeye fans and in some ways more knowledgeable and respectful of their foe. The comparitive atmosphere between the two during the off-season is about the same (slight edge to OSU as I have never heard of a Husker planet for instance) and the Husker fans always look through rose colored glasses at their boys. While as Buckeye fans we can delve into a state of denial it was during my stay there (1996-2001) virtually non-existent. Probably has changed now that they have landed on hard times..... In terms of game time atmosphere, it is not even close. TBDBIL alone sways the bar our way, although I did enjoy games at Memorial Stadium the ruckus environment of the 'shoe is missing....... But I don't blame Pellini in saying what he did...Nebraska is no better or worse than OSU just different and you have to remember his audience..... I hope "Big Red" has a good season and their coach is there for years to come....... |

Unintended comedy, or at least comedy that is funny for a very different reason than the "comedian" intended, is always the best.
