OSU Investigation...
Just from my read, it appears the athletics dept. is pushing the investigation. Could simply be an attempt to prevent a later scoop and well - deserved paranoia results. On the flip, if the AD or Coach is [censored]ed due to a lack of coordination/communication, Troy may very well sit out Sept. 10. I trust he has been told mucho to call at any time.... I also believe that Coach T. has a vested interest in these kids & will deliver a lesson should one be needed. If this is the case, We still have a hell of a game & opportunity to set the stage for a TBDBITL Rose Parade! Plus, Troy will have learned to dot i's and cross t's, I HOPE! Given the nat. coverage, a display that the athletic dept. will not face a label such as "Lack of institutional control" in the near future...

Did he miss one class, a day of classes, or a series of classes throughout the week. Again what grade did he earn!!! Many times I didn't go to a class but a couple of times and received an "A" because I studied my a$$ off. I know the rule is in place to insure that athlete's earn their grades by going to class, but their has to be a voice of common sense here. Oh, I forgot we are dealing with the NCAA...guess that is a lost cause. |

Agreed...Probably should have been an internal matter from the get go, but with the NCAA and ESPN sniffing around all the time at OSU, I don't blame them for being upfront with all this stuff.

I skipped class today in protest of the NCAA's petty nature, bloated rulebook, and cold hypocrisy.
Sorry to hear about TS's situation. The NCAA can be really punitive and petty over things. Hopefully they remember their BS commercials about developing well-rounded citizens when they handle this case. It's about a 6 hour drive from Columbus to Nashville, right? |

Listening to 1460 The Fan and they are saying that 'OSU officals are very confident he will not miss the Texas game.'
Herbie was on and talked up Smith over and over saying that he has heard from the players that he is the far better 'leader.' Says all the team still loves him, which is a special quility. Herbie and the other guy is talking up his charactor too saying they have honor of knowing him personally, and are vouching he is a great guy. http://www.1460thefan.com/tf.php?sto...liveplayer.php Taking calls from the fans currently. |

Pay your own way
If you dont want to follow the rules for accepting a free ride, pay your own way and skip all the classes you want. When you accept a scholarship it is a contract that has conditions that must be met. Why can't student athletes learn this...Secondly, to be a part of a team, there are team rules..if you break those the coach should discipline you.

The NCAA has that rule about not skipping class to maintain the student-first attitude. Not that I agree with a lot of the NCAA's bull[censored], but I don't see a problem with the NCAA stipulating what kind of event and under what circumstances a student on an athletic scholarship can attend an outside event, and as such saying that he/she can't resort to skipping class just to attend. Again, the rule is in place to keep these kids students-first.

It seems pretty clear from the news reports and radio shows I've been hearing that TS IS in violation of NCAA regulations.
Bruce Hooley was just on 1460 saying that the OSU staff has know about this situation for almost a month now. Anyone think that they would still need to be investigating this issue if: 1) TS received written permission from the AD or Head Coach? 2) TS did NOT miss a class? This is a pretty minor issue, one that would be VERY quickly cleared up if TS has followed proper proceedure. NO WAY it takes a month for OSU to investigate this if everything is AOK. Hooley characterized the OSU staff as "very upset" that Troy did NOT seek their permission before attending the camp. Their main worry (originally) was any improper benefits that TS might have received while attending the camp. Now their concern is how the NCAA will view his participation without permission and the possibility that he missed class. Doesn't sound like improper benefits are part of the equation. Hooley also said that his sources (inside OSU) are telling him they do NOT expect TS to receive any more suspensions from the NCAA. What will happen from the OSU staff? Who knows. All of this is very frustrating for us as fans, but let's keep our cool. In the grand scheme of things this is barely a bump on the road. If it weren't for the "death by a thousand paper cuts" we've endured the past several years no one would give this a second thought. I do understand the angst as well. We are very proud of our team and school, and take exception to the fact that our QB (and traditional "team leaders") is making poor decisions. Hopefully we can keep our emotions tempered until football season finally arrives. |

Did Fat Phil turn Troy in? He's been know to do stuff like that.
We shouldn't argue the rule. The rule is dumb, but it is the rule. He broke it and he was on probabtion so to speak. |
