Look, I'm not saying Smith is a lot better than Zwick. It is obviously not the case, and I never thought it was. Both have their stengths and with a normal offense Zwick may indeed be the better choice. I'm just saying I that I think Smith would probably be better at executing the type of offense OSU needs to run to have any success at all at this point.

look....lets all bury this horse and go on to the real problems....
i think either zwick or smith are great qb's..... but when you have no running game....a line that gives you 1.5 seconds to throw and receivers that run "horsecrap" routes....you are limited... i mean both of these kids are elite 11.... i think us posters are caught up in bitching about qb's because it is easier....instead of addressing the real issues...which i have attempted to do in other threads i have started tonite.... |

I agree the system is pretty out there and that needs addressed in the offseason NO DOUBT about it. However right now Smith gives this Offense the best chance at succedding like someone stated. He just has more athletic ability, and frankly can get the ball there in a hurry if he has to. You know I was just think'n and I wanna see what you guys think.
First 2 games Zwick did a good job and got nice pass gains but had 4 Int's. Then the next 4 games he struggled but only threw 1 INT. Do you guys think that because Tressel and Company sat him down and said don't turn it over? That Maybe Zwick isn't really playing aggressively like we saw him do? I mean he takes NO CHANCES now and instead just takes a beating. This don't turn the ball over attitude is kinda messed up because we're drilling these kids with it, and we play a conservative offense but guess what? We still turn the ball over? So god why not just go all out if we're going to turn the ball over? |

I thought Troy Smith today played lights out. He was 6-8 with no INT's. Also his 2 incompletions where drops so its not outta possibility he shouldv'e been 8-8. He has a amazing throw!! Also his ability to scramble and keep the play alive is something this offense needs really bad!! What this can do with his feet and arm is beyond Zwick. I'll tell you right now if Zwick comes back and is pronounced the starter I will almost but 100% not like what Tressel is doing with this team. Seriously I thought we moved the ball very very well on offense. We screwed up 2 times with fumbles that killed drives and I realize that and we need to fix that, but I thought we ran the ball well, and I for one thought we threw the ball extreamly well for only doing it 8 times. I'm now a HUGE smith fan.

Smith lost a fumble.. that's the same as Zwick. He threw 6-8.
The only thing he does better than Zwick so far is run. |

He did what JT allowed him to do.

llyod... He fumbled but look how he fumbled he had the ball out ready to pass and he was moving backwards to aviod the rush what QB do you know would think someone would be 5 yards behind him???? Also when was the last time Zwick went 6-8 for NO int's??? if you cannot see that he is a better passer you're blind. Did you see the quick out to Holmes? or when he scrambled and threw it to Ginn for a 1st down? those are things Zwick CANNOT do. Right now he runs the offense better, runs better, and passes better.
Buckeyebaiter........ Smith went 6-8 with his two incompletions hitting the recievers right in the hands and just dropped. shouldv'e definatly been 8-8. Also Smith picked up numerous 1st downs with Qb draws and scrambles. |

the only game where zwick had less than 20 passes was against Iowa. Last week Smith had 24 and this week he had 8.
There's a reason why coach doesn't pass as much with Smith in the game. An ave. of 10yds per catch. Our punter had almost as many punts as Troy completions. He may have not looked as bad, but I think it's because Tressel doesn't trust Troy passing the ball. And that worries me. He may throw a pretty ball, but there has to be a reason why Tressel doesn't trust him to throw it. I agree that Smith is getting it done.. but I still wonder if he's the one who will lead this team down the road. |
