I think they just re-signed Boller, so that doesn't help Troy. The Ravens will also have a decent pick in the upcoming draft. The draft looks like it'll be fairly deep with QBs. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens drafted a QB. Although, Ogden is getting old and their line has looked weak from what I've seen.

What is the speculation about Troy on the Ravens' forums? I'd love to see him get a shot, it's not like he wasn't playing behind NFL-sized linemen at OSU anyways. He'll give them an extra running option and a good, accurate arm.

Baltimore has a fairly difficult schedule remaining (Cle, SD, NE, Indy, Mia, Sea, Pitt). I doubt they'd throw him into that.

Boller is not a long term solution. If Billick gets canned, I don't see another coach givng Boller more chances.

They only extended him one year through 2008. Seeing that McNair is done with a captial 'D', the QB competition is going to be wide open next training camp.....

I was making remarks during the Bengals - Ravens game that the Bengals have a defensive secondary littered with players Troy Smith burnt in college.

Troy will get his shot next year.

Whether Troy could be as good as Brees, who should be second string when they bench McNair, whether the season is lost or if Boller can salvage the playoff run...

With McNair injured, Troy has been moved up to 2nd string...

Backup plan
Because of McNair's injury, rookie Troy Smith will back up starting quarterback Kyle Boller.

"I'm going to have to be there every play, practicing and playing as if I'm in the game," Smith said. "I have to get ready to play some football."

During the sports segment tonight on Channel 13 WJZ (Baltimore), Smith was featured. They showed a clip of Billick talking about Smith and how he could see some playing time this weekend against the Browns. He said it may only be a play or two, but it's a start. I'd love to see Troy get some action in a regular season game. Since we all know what kind of a QB Kyle Boller is, it might not be too far of a reach to see Troy this weekend or in the coming weeks.

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick announced Tuesday that Kyle Boller will start at quarterback Sunday against the Cleveland Browns thanks to a nagging shoulder injury that has sidelined Steve McNair.
"It's a subluxation of the shoulder," Billick said of McNair's injury on his weekly radio show. "(It) basically means it keeps popping in and out. So, Kyle is starting this week."
McNair went 17-for-26 passing for 128 yards in the Ravens' 21-7 loss to the Bengals Sunday, but, according to Billick, could miss two to three weeks. For the season, 13-year pro out of Alcorn State has completed 133-of-205 pass attempts for 1,113 yards and just two touchdowns to go with four interceptions.
Boller has significant starting experience, with a 4-2 record filling in for McNair in the past two seasons, in addition to having started for Baltimore the three seasons prior to McNair's acquisition in 2006.
Rookie Troy Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner a year ago at Ohio State, will move into the backup role behind Boller for Sunday's game.

Troy was on College football live today, talking about the OSU/UM rivalry. He is still so damn humble, it's great to see. He is always well spoken. I hope after his NFL days are over he takes up some college football annalist job.
Also it's great to hear Troy is going to get some snaps in Cleveland, they love him there. In my opinion Troy is going to be battaling for the starting position next year, and you bet your ass he is going to be studying & working his ass off(like he did for his senior season at OSU) in the offseason to be ready to step up and be a leader.

It would be a shame for Troy's first plays in the NFL to be where he comes in late against an Ohio team, at Baltimore, down by 14.
