Anyone that watched Akron, and Marshall last night will see how a running QB can help. Frye on many occasions ran for his life, stopped, set his feet, and threw the ball. TS can't do that yet.. He didn't run everytime. He looked to pass first.

I think the point that some of the posters have been trying to make is that Santonio Holmes set the bar very high for himself, and he hasn't been the sensation that he was on pace to be. When I think of what Holmes did in the last two games of last season, I think of just how scary-good his hands are and how explosive his game is. The laser he caught above his head, in the back of the endzone in last year's Fiesta Bowl was sick.

We need him to step back up and proactively make the highlight reels again. With the way that Ginn has stepped up, our receiving core would be unstoppable if Holmes and Ginn are clicking on all cylinders.

It's hard to say whether Holmes is playing well or not. All receivers depend on their QB's to help them play. Smith is clearly looking at Ginn more than Zwick did, and I think that is hurting Holmes production more than anything else.

I agree he needs to step up. However, until recently a lot of defenses have not been forced to deal with very much offensively.

They have been able to commit men to the run, and then when passing they can afford to double team Santonio.

I think that will change for the next two weeks, now that Tressel has officially embraced Ginn as God's gift to the buckeyes, and the latest great #7 "G"-od ("G"-amble, -ermaine, -alloway).

I would say Holmes stepped it up today. Some are upset with him for not laying out on that bomb, but most agree Smith was more at fault on the play. I can think of 2-3 outstanding plays by Holmes to juke, stretch and crash his way to some big first downs.

I was pimpin' Gonzo this week and he lets me down. Although the throw was off, he should have caught it. I just hope that TS does'nt get too locked in with Ginn and forget about the others, especially Holmes. I remember Gonzo's attempt and one to Lyons, but does anyone know the breakdown of throws to Holmes and Ginn?

This offense this year has been bad, but I think we are now in double digits on the year on passes over 30 yards that were either dropped or within inches of being caught and overthrown. And some huge plays have been brought back by penalty on the year. Know that happens to everyone, but that really gives me a lot of hope for this team next year.

And Smith is playing well. He seems to throw the ball some times and takes off running after at best his second progression, it seems, but no interceptions is key and he is producing with his arm and feet. Cannot find fault with the guy.

Holmes is hurting his own production. We can go back to NW when he missed that pass from Zwick in OT to yesterday when he missed the long pass from Smith, and numerous times in between. If holmes wants to be named in the list of top receivers in college, he has to make plays that ordinary receivers do not (See Braylon Edwards).

I will say he stepped up in the last drive with a crucial conversion.

I will also add that Gonzalez's miss yesterday was worse than Holmes'. He should have made that catch.

I agree Gonzo should have made this catch but again it was a toss that would have been much better if it was made to the inside of the field.

If I recall Troy, was somewhat on the run when he made that throw though..

The ball hit Holmes in the hands. He was wide open, too. Should have been a TD.

Yeah Smith was scrambling to his right and Gonzo stopped his out route and turned it up.... I think there was a saftey though coming from the inside so I don't know if he couldv'e gone their?? I'll watch it and come back and tell you, but yeah shouldv'e been caught. The holmes Couldv'e been caught but well it wasn't?


I to am alittle bit surprised of Holmes as of late. He's definatley not going pro this year thats for sure! Which is good for us buckeye fans, but even better for the years to come. Right now we're getting the ball very evenly to Holmes/Ginn. Its just Ginn is just so much quicker and has crazy moves that I think Tressel is giving the ball to Ginn in the open alot more. Holmes still makes alot of nice grabs in traffic IMO. He'll be huge for us in the Michigan game.

It would've been a TD, had Smith thrown the ball to the inside of the field vice the sideline side...which is tough when he's on the run, but still that portion was his bad. However, Gonzo still should've caught the ball for a huge gain, albeit going out of bounds.

anybody dogging holmes for not catching that ball has their head up their ass. the only reason it hit his hands is because he is an amazing WR.
